I have an 07 Mazda3 GT Sport with 27,000km. Just had a flat that I needed to get fixed. In the process of doing this, they said that the tire is basically worn out and needs to be replaced. Is this normal for this little mileage?

Am on a 2 year zero percent lease that is up in July. Really hate to spend the $ on tires. How will this be handled at turn in time? I suppose it will go easier if I get another Mazda? Not looking to buy the vehicle as we need something a little bigger.

I handed my leased 04 GT in with the original tires at 57,000 km's. They were getting low IMO and showed very slight weather cracking at the corners of the tread. BUT, I used winter tires for 5 months out of every year. Without this I would have to guess that I would have been replacing the stock ones for sure. I never did find out the actual criteria or tread depth the lease inspector was looking for but I would suggest finding out to better gauge what you need to do.

Yeah I had the same with my stock Good Year Eagle RSAs ... 20,000KM or so on them with regular rotation and they're pretty much bald.. I don't even really drive that hard on them either.

Oh crap. I better check my tires out. I have like 44k on them. What's a good brand to go with in case they need replacing. Yokohama? I like their tires =)

The quality of everything in this day and age is garbage!

The RS-As, should last longer than that.
There are three likely possibilities for your issue:
1) Alignment (if your car may still track straight)
2) Tire pressure not proper (but you should see weird tire wear patterns)
3) aggressive driving habits.

I did some searching, seems like a lot of members are getting abnormal wear on their stock tires, and their stock tires alone.

There has also been cases where the dealer gave the car to a customer with tires over-inflated. I wonder if these two incidents are related.

I've been told that OE tires are not the same as aftermarket tires, even if you're talking about the same model. In other words aftermarket Goodyear RS-A tires are of better quality than the RS-A's that are on the car at delivery.

OE tires are all about specs for rolling resistance and fuel economy. Longevity is not on the criteria list.

Note: I'm not saying the above text is fact, I'm just saying I've been told. So if it's wrong, feel free to correct it.

Regarding overinflation - *L*A*Z*Y* PDI ... the kick in the shins is that you pay for the PDI. Doesn't just happen with Mazda either, my friend's Audi had overinflated tires when he took delivery.

Not true at all...their is no difference if it came from factory or you bought them later!

RS-As wear out very fast IMO. I have them and with 45500KM on my car I would say I have probably used the RS-As about 50% of the mileage (aprpx. 22700) as I switch back and forth with winter tires and there is little tread left. I'd say one more season (aprox 10,000Km) of safe driving. I have read that these tires are supposed to last longer (I think 80,000Km). I dont even drive hard or spin my wheels. The only thing I can think of thats causing a fast wearout is highway driving which I do frequently.

Unless u did some insane burnouts with ur car u wouldent need to replace the tires at 27 K.... I always thought u needed to change tired at 40-80 K depending on tire and weight of car... I could be wrong but I know 27K is early, unless u abused the tires,

Just cause the tires wore early does not mean that they were abused. My bro gf has an 08 mazda 3 gt and she has the good year egle rsa tires and her tread is f&%ked...Its a defect in tires not the way the car was driving!

what was wrong with the tread?
outside of the tire wears more than the inside?
the sides of the tire is wore out but the center is fine?
the center is wore out but the sides are not?
the inside of the tire wears more than the outside?

The tread is not wearing out evenly...and te tires make way to much noise. The tires were roted every 10 000km..its defective....good year will cover the tires but you got to pay for the tread that was used so in the end you are better off to buy another brand of tires that are a bit cheaper :chuckle

If you don't buy the warrnety for the rims and tires when buying the car their real is nothing the dealer can do....Good year will come good with the tires...BUT you must pay for tread that you used.

My Good years that were on my truck were defect too..i had to pay the tread..in the end it cost me $130 for a tire that cost $250...(255/55/17)..

I think she is just going to run the tires down and then buy a different brand and not the good years again:chuckle

then its not the tires.
Wears not wearing evenly has two reasons or mix of both reasons
1) Bad alignment (your car can still go straight with a bad alignment)
2) Improper tire pressure

Not my car...not realy my problem on what caused it....:chuckle

I was just saying to mazda3sprote that just cause the tires wore out on slingo56 car does not mean that they were abused....just using my bro gf car as example cause her car was never abused:chuckle

sound of attempt to tone my last message properly, lol.
my bad on that one.
I'm just curious if its "bad from factory alignment" or bad tire pressure.

From i was told by my brother the the right rear alignment was out a bit which was cause when they tie down the cars to ship..but since it was over 20,000km and she never bought the warrnty on the tires and rims their was nothing the dealer could do..Good year would replace the tires but you got to pay the trwad that is gone...and since its got over 40,000km on the tires she is better off to get another set of tires..that are not goodyear RSA:chuckle

none of the above lol
the entire tire tread from left to right is practically identical in tread wear and its shit @ 14,000 km im about 3/4 through the tires tread for me tires have been filled to 34 psi front and 32 rear ever since i baught my car in september and i drive mostly highway as i live 3 hours away and go up to house every weekend.

when i baught the car tires were at 40 psi noticed this weak after i had the car and was curious at proper tire pressure i was like O.o i drove 800km in that week lol love my baby! so i took some air out
still overall tires suck balls not even small balls like really really big nasty balls

Based on the things you and aristeidis said, I'm really stumped. I have had a complete opposite experience with the RS-As, as a summer tire, than most members here. Based on my personal experience, I found the lateral grip of the RS-A to be on near the level as my S.Drives and RT-615s. I also never had the premature wear a lot of people are/has experienced over the years.

I'm going to look into a few things on tuesday or at the end of the week regarding this.
1) Are RS-As all manufactured in the same place
2) Any revisions since the Mazda 3 was released
3) Any reported Mazda 3 alignment issues during delivery
I probably won't find anything on #3.

I have no idea what you are trying to get at here? Just cause you have not had any problems with the RS-A does not mean anyone else is. On my truck I had the RS-A tires and one tire went no good...I went to good year in Belleville and told them about it and they checked the date on the tires and said they are underwarrnty and that they wil order me a new tire..but i had to pay for the tread i used. Samething with the RS-A on her car...they will cover the defected tires that are on her 3 but she has to pay tread that was used.

As for alignment issues on delevery it can happen....When the cars are delivered they are tied down from the suspension. I never said all of them are effected when they are delivered cause mine is fine.

For people that are on a lease I was told the tires need 3.2mm on them when you return the car.

I'm debating if I need to get new tires or not right now for summer. I only have 50k on my car with prob 20 - 25k on the RSA's and they're kinda done.

I had Goodyear rsa's on my last 2 vehicles and they wear out alot faster than other tires. Not a tire I would tell people to purchase!

If that is the case, I'm selling my old Good Year's...let me know if someone want's them as I'll list them in in the next few days.
