I need a little help troubleshooting this.

in the last couple of weeks i've been getting a strong cigarette smell coming in via the air vents.

I've taken the air intake apart, looked at the air filter, nice and clean.

Anywhere else to look? Id like to fix this on my own and avoid having to pay for it.

Potentially in the vents? Have you tried them at different setting to diagnose the smell.

ie. Full Fan Cold, AC on, AC Off, Heat full on?

If it smells at all settings you can rule out the vents because it could be something in the engine bay.

Are you referring to the air intake in the engine bay? That air/filter is used for the engine, not for air circulation in the cabin.

Check for debris (cigarette butt) at the base of your windshield (below the windshield wipers).

If the dial is set from 12 o'clock to the right then you "may" get odors from the outside. This includes the car smoking next to or in front of you. Try setting the dial to the left and hit the recirc button (near the rear defrost button) and see if you are still getting any smells. If you are then there may be other issues.

It's when it smells like burnt toast that you have to worry.

yeah you have to worry that your toast are burnt!! :chuckle

just joking...but like someone mentioned, check the vents on the outside of the car just under the windshield (you'll have to lift the hood) maybe some cigarette butts got wedged in there somehow?

I get the odd scent of smoke when I am in traffic and I have the defrost on. Personally I hat it but there's nothing you can do except change it to vent and turn the recirc on. I'm sure that's all it is.

Same issue happened to my buddy, somebody threw a left-over joint in the vent area below his windshield and when he had the air on the whole car smelled like weed. So maybe check it? There's alot of *******s out there who get a kick outta doin stupid shit like that.

I noticed the exact same thing... weird... it only happens for like a second then goes away. My defrost was on as well when it happened. And no I don't smoke/was not beside anyone who was smoking.

Meh.

"somebody" threw a left-over joint in the vent area? try explaining that to the cops when they pull you over and then ask why the car smells like weed! :chuckle
