I went for an regular oil change today at 43500km, tech advise that I should get tranny and power steering flush as the fluids are black....is this really necessary right now? I have a 2007 M3 GT Auto.

What does the owner's manual say?

Generally a fluid flush is done when your car has much higher KMs. A fluid change is a different thing.

they are likely just trying to sell you the services. Could always going to an independent mechanic for a second opinion.

I'd say change it when the oil is dirty enough. Seems early for that, but check the fluids yourself! If they are black like they described it... I'd change it. My Escape service interval for tranny oil change was 60,000kms. Oil was good, but I tow with it, so I changed it. It shouldn't be overly expensive, its just a fluid change, not a flush and fill with a filter and gasket change.

I am doing a full "flush" of everything come 100K-ish and changing to royal purple or redline! seems too early for you to go through this process already though, I say just wait as it sounds like a "cash grab" to me too.

As per the service schedule for the 3, a flush of the brake lines, rad and tranny are suggested at 48K, I think. This obviously depends entirely on whether the oils are burnt or not, etc. Yes this is probably more of a money grab, but it may become a warranty issue down the road. Just a thought.

I'm coming up on 48K and will decide what gets done after looking at all of the fluids with the service manager. In the end it is your decision.

The fluid should be a wine red colour not black. I would change it if that's the case.

I don't think that's correct unless you are talking about the 'Suggested Service Schedules' posted at Mazda dealers!!....As for the owner's manual there is no mention of the replacement of transmission fluid with an automatic trans or replacement of power steering or brake fluid whatsoever!!.Standard transmissions they suggest 96k, Coolant flush the same; 96k or 4 years....Now this comes right out of my '05 manual, if something has changed in the newer models, someone please correct me.

Nevertheless, if the OP has an automatic transmission I would suggest he consider changing the fluid, black or not, but would suggest using a quality synthetic fluid....I've talked to several Mazda mechanics and have heard that the autos in the 3 run hot, which can shorten the life of the fluid, for this reason I would suggest the change....and it's a good 'Preventative Maintenance' step.

As for PS fluid or brake fluid;....it's absolutely unnecessary and a cash grab.

and if they want to put their hands anywhere else on you, they should at least take you to dinner first!!
