View Full Version : In-Dash Nav Comparison

I've looked around and haven't really found a good comparison/review of the following products and was wondering if anyone had one and could chime in on it?
I'm looking at getting either the Kenwood DNX5120 (http://www.kenwood.ca/Car_Entertainment/Mobile_Video_n_Navigation/Navigation/DNX5120) or the Pioneer AVIC-F700BT (http://www.pioneerelectronics.ca/POCEN/Products/Navigation/In-Dash+Navigation/AVIC-F700BT). I kinda like the look of the Pioneer better and I've read the new 2.0 firmware is good...but Kenwood comes with the garmin nav. But I kinda like the "create your own route" on the Pioneer...
Anyone have these and have a good/bad review of it? Things I should watch out for? I'd mostly use it for Radio, iPod, GPS as I don't use bluetooth a lot. I just want something all in one so I don't have to keep plugging in my GPS all the time. Planning a road trip in the summer so the create own route sounds cool but not needed...
I'd likely buy in a month or so (when I can hopefully free up a bit of cash) so no real rush...but just wanting to get a head start on this...
Any advice?

Yeah, I read a few things in there. Some people have problems, some don't. Not really a lot to go on...then again, I read some people had problems with the kenwood too...just thought people here might have first hand experience.

I have a Kenwood ddx512 (6.5 inc screen no nav but can be added) and I love it. I have always owned Kenwood and would not change. Kenwood has a Garmin nav system and is the best on the market in my opinion.

I have a Pioneer D2 and love it, never a problem. Carried it with me through 2 cars and now its in my 2rd, the MS3.
Pioneer is a great company and has been the industry leader in nav systems for quite some time. The 900 is a better unit though as it has a bit more features like Blueteeth and whatnot..

Actually, the ONLY difference between the 700 and 900 is a DVD player instead of just a CD player. And since I don't really care about playing DVD's in the car, the 700 is good enough lol.
We'll see what ends up working though...

If you compare the following 2 spec pages
AVIC-F700BT Specs (http://www.pioneerelectronics.ca/POCEN/Products/Navigation/In-Dash+Navigation/AVIC-F700BT?tab=B)
AVIC-F900BT (http://www.pioneerelectronics.ca/POCEN/Products/Navigation/In-Dash+Navigation/AVIC-F900BT)
Then the only difference is the DVD feature...But for my personal choice, I don't really CARE about playing videos in the car in the first place...so it's not a selling point for me lol
$200 or more extra just for DVD playback? Not worth it for me...

Doesn't the 900bt have 4-volt pre outs vs 2 volt on the 700bt?

Doesn't the 900bt have 4-volt pre outs vs 2 volt on the 700bt?
Specs on 700BT page...
RCA Preouts 3 pair (Front, Rear, Subwoofer)
Preout Voltage 2.2V, 1k Ohm
Specs on 900BT page...
RCA Preouts 3 pair (Front, Rear, Subwoofer)
Preout Voltage 2.2V, 1k Ohm
Specs on 90BT page...
RCA Preouts 3 pair (Front, Rear, Subwoofer)
Preout Voltage Hi-Volt 4.0V
So from the 700BT, $200 more basically gets you DVD (and a few other minor things) for the 900BT...and then $100 more from there gets you better audio outs and a few other minor features for the 90BT...
At least according to the Pioneer Canada site...And for the price/features, the 700BT is enough for me.

No neither have it, your thinking of the F90bt model which lists at $1199.

LOL...man...would have been good to know that just a bit earlier. Already made my choice. Oh well. I'm happy with what I got...though I would have liked the dash kit to come with the needed peices to keep my trip computers :S
