Fuel Gauge problem

I just noticed this today. The gaude went to empty and light came on, I filled up, and the meter on went just above half way.
Fuel pump problem? sensor?

Also, a couple weeks back, I was going very slow on the highway and the car died, shut off by itself. I took it in to dealership, but they couldn't detect anything, they replaced air filter.

If you filled all the way until the gas pump shut off... then the tank must be full. So if the gauge only reads half full, then it's probably a faulty fuel-level sensor in the tank.

pump shouldnt have anything to do with your level indication

How many liters went in, or how much did it cost? The pump can shut off early if you have backsplash.... Only way to know is if you know how much you out in, and I assume that was from low fuel as stated.
