Hey guys,

My friend has a Mazda 3 and just bought a Kensington AUX Iphone 3g adapter to listen to music on her way to work. The problem is that when she plugs it in, there is a humming nice. This can be somewhat reduced if the charger is not plugged in and just the AUX cable is, however, the iphone runs out of power quick this way.

Through my research, it appears a Ground Loop Isolator will solve the problem. I am not too familiar with electrical wiring or what not, but it seems I will need to connect the GLI to the Stereo and Amp.

My major questions are ... How do I get to the head unit in the Mazda 3? I don't want to crack or break anything. Also, anyone with experience installing the GLI, I would love to hear the process of connecting the device. Where exactly is the amplifier located?

Thanks

I had the same issue. I bought this and all the noise went away.

That one seems like u just plug the AUX component into the receiving end of that ... then the AUX of the GLI to the AUX in your car ... seems much easier to install.

the one I have requires accessing the head unit I believe... but I heard it produces better results.

I looked around for awhile for the best solution for my iphone. Tried some different cords and chargers. If your just trying to hook up to AUX port on a stock HU while charging you're really limited.

This eliminated the buzz completely without sacrificing music quality.

I bought my GLI with 3.5mm jacks from Auto Sound Design. They have locations in Unionville and Thornhill. www.autosounddesign.com

It's jacks are M-F so it fits nicely inline with my connections. I just have it sitting in the bottom of the arm rest compartment where the Aux-in jack is.

I get a weird static noise in between songs with my adapter as well, (it doesn't use an aux cable tho it's a direct ipod link) I wonder if it's the same thing, and if a ground loop isolator would work....

I noticed if I put the volume on the ipod at maximum, I don't hear the static as much

Here's what you should buy instead:

http://www.sendstation.com/us/products/pocketdock/lineout-miniusb.html

It's called the Pocket Dock. It essentially allows you to charge your iphone through a standard mini-USB cable AND gives you a line-out, non-amplified 3.5mm headphone jack. By giving you this line-out, you get the cleanest signal with absolutely no noise / alternator wine. I just got mine today and can vouch for it... They don't really advertise it for these features (They market this thing for it's regular mini-usb port and hi-fi sound), but it works greatly. Oh and the sound quality is easily noticeable!
