Okay...so basically, i installed a LOC, amp and sub in my car a couple months ago and this week i started noticing a popping noise coming from the speakers at any volume level at or above 30+
it sounds like its coming from the front speakers only but i cant be 100% sure...
my loc is connected directly behind the HU using the rear speaker wires...
its starting to drive me nuts and i wanna know if i may need new speakers (im not to keen on the stock ones) or if theres a simple solution for now so i can save more cash for better speakers :)

thanks in advance...

There was an issue with the stock head units on some 2008.5s. You might want to see if you are one of those individuals affected.

Or, there is something else wrong.

a pop you say from the speaker?? I'm sorry to say that you need a new voice coil for you speaker (new speakers) not worth it to rebuild the stockers. The sound is the voice coil offcentred between the magnet.

thanks CWP i will definately look into that...
hopefully that isnt the problem as i have probably voided any warranty on the stereo with my sub/amp install...

i was planning on buying new speakers anyways...just not at the moment...oh well...i guess i better get looking for some new speakers haha

They may try to give you a hard time but I'm sure, if it's a decent dealership, you shouldn't have any problems. Are your speakers hooked up to the amp/LOC or just a sub? If the speakers are and you are getting the popping noise through the speakers, it may just be the LOC/grounding. If they aren't connected to the amp it may be your deck or speakers.

also an easy way to find out what speaker it is is to simply play with the fade and balance. ull find out exactly what speaker is doing it

it can be the ground wire. or with the LOC the wires are not hooked up properly and when it hits hard it starts to spark. it happened to me. and i fixed it using tape properly

Disconnect the rca's from the sub amp. Fade the speakers to the front, turn volume up. Repeat for rear. If you have one speaker only popping as volume is increased chances are that that speaker is done. What is the bass setting on the cd player at? A speaker just does not pop all on it's own, something causes it to, generally how the user uses it. When a person has a sub in the vehicle and turns up the bass on the cd player (to get more bass from the sub), the downfall here is that it affects the far smaller speakers in the vehicle causing massive amounts of distortion that are masked by the far more powerful sub. All of a sudden one day, you hear a speaker pop.....

ill definately have to look into the radio problem i noticed the bass kinda doesnt get louder on my stereo past 35...and everything starts getting really grainy and distorted
it may just be my ears or the head unit...i dont know yet...
but im definately gonna check the vin and software tomorrow to see if my car is affected...

I have my bass at +2 or 3 usually...which shouldn't pop speakers by any means...in my opinion at least...
Would installing aftermarket speakers help with this problem? I want to get a 4 channel amp as well but its not in my budget right now...so speakers only for now...

well i went in for an oil change today at MOT and i asked them to look at the deck and they ended up telling me that i needed my front door speakers replaced...thankfully they had a set in stock and were able to swap them out right away...
im pretty sure that was the problem because i had the volume up on the way home and it sounded a million times better than before...no more crackling, hissing etc.
at least this will be able to hold me over till i can save up some more dough for a new set of speakers and a nice amp to power them...
now i play the waiting game haha...

thanks for all the help guys

Glad you got them replaced!

Just fyi, I have 2009 with lux package, and I definetly get bass distortion at 35ish with bass at +2 from the stock speakers. So listening to the non-lux speakers at that volume with added bass overtime most likely caused the problem :) Just wear em out again and replace em with some better speakers soon.
