Just had my 48K service at Mountain Mazda. Was worried about the cost and all that after reading lots of stories on the forum (including replacing brakes/machining rotors at 48K!? replacing fluids etc.). I do about 60% hwy, 40% city.

After about an hour of waiting, the guy came to speak with me, so I was thinking "here we go..".

Essentially he said the car was in great condition. All fluids were good and didn't need to be touched. The brakes/suspension were in great condition, 7mm left on the front pads and 8mm left on the rear pads. Nothing to do.

Considering a brand new brake pad has 9mm, all brake pads are practically in new condition. He says "you must not brake that much.." What does that mean!? I brake a normal amount hah. I wonder how hard people are braking to have to replace the pads at <48K!?!?

Anyways, they offer 17% discount on parts/labour provided you are a TM3 member (with proof). So the total cost after discount (before tax) for the 48K service was $174.78 and it took about 2 hours.

My advice from reading the forum in general for an automatic is not to replace any fluids at this point (unless something obviously wrong) and if having to replace brake pads, don't machine the rotors (probably a waste of money unless something is seriously wrong as well). I'd rather wear out my brakes a bit faster than have to pay $200 for machining rotors when you can wait until the rotors become too thin and just replace them.

I imagine a lot of the people that replace the brakes so early are doing a lot fo city driving and I think the 07+ have new brake pads that may last longer. All in all sounds good.
