So on the weekend I installed Magnum cross drilled rotor and the semi metallic pads they come with. Besides being a little noisy from what I assume is the rougher surface (cross hatched) of the rotor compared to stock everything has been ok... Until today. My front brakes start squeaking when gently applied. I figured no big deal... Just head to Canadian Tire and pick up some anti squeal,,,, Well the guy there says I shouldn't do anything and the noise should stop since its all new.. Then he said unless the pads are "glazed" over then I would have to replace the pads.

What would cause this "glazing" if that is in fact the problem? Any suggestions as to what else it could be? If I apply them hard there is no squeal...

Thanks

I'll just throwing in a suggestion here, maybe you need to properly bed the brakes since you have a new set of rotors and new pads.

Well I just took everything apart and noticed a "glaze" on the pads so was told to sand it off which I did. I also cleaned everything really well and used "disc quiet" and the squeal is no gone... Hopefully it stays gone....

Take your pads off, bevel the edges with a file, add some copper-slip, reinstall them and you should be good to go. If not, they will go away after a few thousand KMs. I had the same setup (different brand, KVR) and they squeeled like crazy for a couple thousand KMs. 40K later, not a single sound, ever.
