From reading on this forum I found out that my Mazdaspeed 3 gets semi-syn. for my oil. I decided to do my own oil change this time and buy my filter at the dealer. While I was in there I asked about using full synthetic. The guy behind the counter asked the service manager. The service manager says not for the rotary but your is fine. We used to use semi in it but now we use conventional oil. Now I feel ripped off..... they decide to buy cheaper oil but not reduce the price for me and still do oil changes at the normal k period. I'm guessing the reason the km period was longer in the first place was because it was semi syn... Just thought everyone should know.

I am going in this week for an oil change..i my self run synthetic oil..but i am going to ask them if they switched the oil from semi synthetic to convention oil.

I am looking back at one of my recpits from my last oil change before i swtiched to synthetic and they charge $3.29 for semi synthtic oil...that is not expensive.

Ya Bay Mazda

I couldn't get my car up on my ramps lol.... even with the extensions I made for my old lowered 97 probe gt. So called up Wells Ford in Stirling (great place btw.... they treat u like family and don't rip u off) and they are going to do my oil change. I'm supplying Mobil one syn. with a mazda filter. So they are going to fill one of my 4.4 litre containers with 10w30 for lawn mower changes. $28.95 for a change there.

I called today about this and they said its not their choice but mazda switched to conventional oil. So all dealers are now using conventional oil from what i understand on what i was told from them.

What's funny about this is that Mazda has actually started using synthetic in all of the "newer" vehicles right from the factory. I'm not sure where you are getting that they use normal oil now. Whatever dealer told you that is probably full of crap.

First off the dealer in question is Bay Mazda.

Second I couldn't tell you what kind of oil they use NOW cause I do not take my car to dealer but at the time Mazda did start using convention oil ... I started doing my own oil changes over 30,000km ago

My post was 2 years ago lol

Haha damn, the month/day was close and didn't see that it was from 2009. What a noob for reviving the thread!

I wasn't getting on you about it, I was just saying I heard about the new OW-20 synthetic is something to look at. :)

Ill chyme in on this more tomorrow but im almost 100% sure that genuine mazda oil/motorcraft is a semi synthetic blend.

There are LOTS of semi syns on the market that are simply labeled "synthetic" and lots of conventional oils with synthetic additives, making both semi synthetic.
