Hey guys,

I did some searching, and found a thread from a few years back about the Basslink, but I didn't want to bump a 2-3 year old thread.

I see Crutchfield Canada has the Basslink for $299 (compared to FutureShop at $399) http://www.crutchfieldcanada.com/Infinity_BassLink_200_Watt_Powered_10_Subwoofer_p/108basslin.htm

Does anyone have an experience with this unit? It seems that you'd be able to piece together your own sub + box + amp for roughly the same price (or at least, I did with my previous setup) but this seems more convenient.

I typically listen to a lot of electronic music (house, trance, etc) - so I like decent bass - but I'm definitely not looking for anything overpowering, and it looks like this should do the job.

I see amazon.com has the Basslink for $180USD - but they don't ship to Canada.

Where else would you guys recommend shopping for audio equipment at reasonable prices in the GTA?

I had one when I first got my 3 in may, by the first week in june I was sick of it. The rms power is no where near what it actually produces. It gets very sloppy at high volumes as well. I would recommend seperate amp and seperate sub.

I've heard a lot about it's all down to the positioning of the unit, to get the best sounding bass. (based on reviews i've read)

yep, in the box it has diagrams of the best possible locations, I tried them....ALL OF THEM. The bass this reproduces is not even close to power it's rated at. It's up to you, imo im advising against it. It's almost as broad as a sub with box anyways.

by the way, future shop stocks these basslinks. Some locations have it on display. I suggest going to check one out in person to see and hear it. Im not sure where you are, I know the ajax location had one.

I had a 1st-gen Basslink years ago in my 2nd car. It was awesome! True, it did get a tiny bit "sloppy" at high volumes, but those are the kind of volumes that'd make you go deaf. Or maybe I'm just getting too old.

I'm gonna pick up a 2nd generation Basslink soon, as they've got a bit more power and are slightly more compact, from what I've seen. I'd definitely say they're the best bang for the buck when it comes to saving space, no-fuss installation, and ease of use.
