View Full Version : Sirius Sattelite/preset button problems..

This seems to be a weird one....

As I am driving along, the Sirius Satellite (built into the factory system, on the 6 month free trial membership) does an update. Shortly thereafter I lose all of my presets on SAT bands 1 & 2 (for whatever reason my 3rd preset band is not affected). So, when I get home I spend a few moments and reset all of my presets. Much to my chagrin, once I have set them, and go to use the preset buttons, I get an "INVALID CHANNEL" message. This happens ONLY when I use the presets. I can use the dial and menu to listen to any channel, and when I go to set them in, it beeps and flashes (which indicates I am doing that part right), and the display updates to reflect that it is now a preset (eg. "SR1 01 for the first preset, SR1 02 for the second etc.), but as soon as I actually hit the preset button, it displays the same message and will not play the channel. And I have tried to use all kinds of random channels to the preset, all of which have failed.

I called Sirius, and as I expected since the signal is still being received and I can hear all the stations if I manually tune to them, this is not a Sirius issue but a hardware issue with the stereo. They did send me a signal twice to see if there was anything they could do on their end, but nada.

Oh, and the preset buttons work fine for fm/am, only Sirius.....

Anyone else have this problem???

Is there a way to "reset" the stereo (like holding a couple of buttons together for a few seconds to "reboot" the software)?

I am trying my best to troubleshoot, as I am already waiting for a confirmation of an appointment to take the car in to have my tints redone (they were done as part of the purchase deal, and the vehicle is 4 WEEKS OLD and little bubbles are already forming in the tint), but I want to make sure I have tried everything before I go through the hassle of explaining this problem to a tech, and then have them try to tell me it's a Sirius problem blah blah blah.

Any ideas?

This has been answered numerous times on here. You need to pull the fuse, wait 5min, plug it back in and you're good. Mazda sent out a letter regarding this.

sorry about that - i searched this section to no avail, but just realized it was in the mods section. and since the car is so new, I did not get a letter from Mazda on it.

thanks for the heads up, admin please delete thread if you feel it is warranted.

No worries, but make sure you do leave the fuse out for at least 5min or it won't work (I didn't leave it out long enough the first time I did it)

OK, well I tried that, left the fuse out for 20 minutes still didn't work.

That's weird, I guess your radio is broken....looks like you need to make a trip to your dealer

Mazda Canada sent me a letter a few weeks back about something related to an update causing your preset to be lost and other issues. I believe it was related to the specific receiver in some of the models with Sirius. My MS3 was not afftected, so not sure that I kept the letter.

In any case, I believe the dealers know all about this and can easily fix it. I remember the letter had a procedure for reset.

I will try and find the letter for you and if I can find it, will post it up in the next few hours. If not, call your dealer and explain what happened and they should know about this, provided of course, this is in fact the same issue.

I just did a Google search for you on Mazda3 Sirius Radio Issues and it brings up lots of results. Apparently the fix is to pull the fuse for the Sirius unit for about 5-10 minutes and this will fix everything. The dealer also can do this for you.

I'll search for the letter also, but I believe that may have been the fix suggested and they indicated which fuse to pull. When you pull the fuse cover off, it will tell you which fuse is for the Sirius receiver and I believe so does the manual for the car. I couldn't find that specific procedure info in my quick search.

Let me look.

Okay, I found the letter in my office. I'll have to scan it later today and will post it up for you. You don't need to pull the fuse, but rather, you just need to remove the 'fuse puller' which is located inside the fuse block cover of the engine bay.

Here are the steps and there is a diagram also, but you'll need to wait for that as I don't have a scanner handy right now.

1) Park the vehicle outside where the SIRIUS Satellite radio broadcasting signal can be received.

2) Turn off the engine and engage the parking brake.

3) Open the hood.

4) Carefully remove the fuse block cover.

5) Remove the 'fuse pulller" located in the cover. (Located Top left hand side of fuse block)

Oddly, the instructions don't tell you to reconnect the fuse puller afterwards, but let's just assume you will need to do that...LOL:chuckle

Hopefully you know what the fuse puller, but if not, it is the little box shaped unit on the top left side of the fuse block if you are looking at the car from the front.

In any case, I'll post up the whole letter and fix instructions later today.

^Are you serious? What is pulling the fuse puller out going to do? It's just a piece of plastic used to remove fuses. You have to REMOVE the FUSE which is what I told him to do and he said it didn't work

Yah, I didn't read all the posts...

Did he pull the fuse, or the actual fuse puller in the engine bay itself? Shouldn't really matter in theory, but the procedure is to disengage the entire fuse puller unit and not just the specific fuse for the receivor unit. Pulling the entire fuse puller will shut down all of the electrical systems, so maybe this is why it is suggested.

If this doesn't work then maybe the firmware update corrupted his receiver and he needs it replaced.

The instructions I got told me to just pull the one fuse for the radio, which I did, and everything worked afterwards

Justin,

I will send you a PM. I scanned off the full instructions for you, but they are in adobe format and I can't edit or save them to a medium that allows me to post them up here.

Send me an email and I'll fire them off to you. I missed a page on the instructions that I found after posting and you do need to pull the fuses too.

Anyone who wants a copy of this bulletin/TSB, send me a PM with your email and I'll fire them off to you.

Ok, after reading the letter (thanks ZZB), here's where I went wrong - I pulled the fuse for the radio as per the manual, but it is actually the ROOM fuse, so I pulled the wrong one (the letter also has a diagram of the fuses, and for sure it's not the same one that the manual identifies as the radio fuse)

Also, I may not have had the e-brake engaged, which it specifically states to make sure you do.

In any case, it's at the dealer's anyways because my tint job had to be redone, so I have talked to them and they should be all over it.........

Got the car back today, everything is great, new tint looks good, and service levels were good enough for me to post in the appropriate thread for dealer reviews.
