I could use a obd2 reader for my 2004 Mazda 3 gt. Any suggestions, I have seen some on ebay but not sure if they work with the mazda3.

OBD2 already means that the reader supports J1850, ISO9141 and CAN protocols.
To be confident it will work, check in manual that reader supports CAN 250kbit/s
with 11bit ID, and has J1962 connector.
Forgotten one thing, these connectors are with pin type and blade type contacts.
I find on my car that the 16 pin connector with the blade contacts isn’t inserting.

If you're in the GTA, princess auto sells them for 'bout $30.

Here is a pdf file. I can't open this file on my work computer. Look if you like how it works and if reader can to read "freeze frame". Often, here very useful information such as RPM,Temperature e.t.c. at moment when error was registered.
This reader should to work and has the apropriate connector.
There is one but. The reader can to read and to erase DTC but doesn't read live data.
Probably, since time you would wish more.

Looks like the same one I picked up at Princess Auto for $38.88!

It's a basic code reader and clears codes.

Canadian tire often has theirs on sale. For $100 you can get one that displays the codes and their descriptions.

Personally, the $40 version and a printed out PDF of the codes and their descriptions works well enough for me!

BTW, as a follow up, I found that a shop had their ScanGauge II's listed for $153.99 as part of a group buy for another forum, but they extended the courtesy our way too.

I posted up the details in the GB section of this forum.
At $154+tax, you can't go wrong! Espeically if you have a pre 2007 and always wanted a trip computer to tell you fuel consumption, L/100KM, distance travelled/remaining, etc, etc.
