I wonder if anyone on here had accident with police cruisers.... how much sh*t would you get into lol

A cop almost backed into me today on my street. He was obviously looking for an address... stopped at the intersection (stop sign) for like a minute. It was a blind corner with a stop sign so I just had to stop behind him. Then he put in reverse, and slammed on the gas! Stupid p*g.... my first time honking at a cop lol.... luckily I stopped way back or he would have backed into me already.

i knew a girl that got t-boned because the cop was going at least 120 km/hr in a 50 zone, she pulled out at an intersection and the cop came over the hill and hit her. She had bruises and cuts on her and in the end she was charged for failing to yield for a cop. Took over a year to file charges. Cops always make it so that they are not at fault even thou they are at fault.

2 weeks after I got my MS3 a year and a half ago I was driving home at 2am following the limit and I had a green light so I was going through an intersection close to home. All of a sudden out of nowhere a cop flew by against the red right infront of me with no lights or sirens on or anything. I braked as hard as I could and my front end was so close to him i couldn't even see the bottoms of his doors as he passed. I held the horn on for like 15 seconds and maybe 50-100 meters AFTER the intersection he put his lights on.

And by the way, any emergency vehicle even with their lights on is only legally allowed to go 20km/h over the posted speed limit. If that cop was doing more than 70km/h in that 50 zone they are in the wrong and should be charged with speeding and/or reckless driving causing bodily harm.

Problem is... under the HTA, if you're pulling out from a side street you need to MAKE SURE you are clear before you go. It doesn't matter if the other car is doing 200kmh. If you get hit when you're turning into the intersection you're basically SCREWED!

Same thing when you're turning left at the intersection and the light has turned red, if the other car ran a red and hit you, you are also at fault for making an unsafe turn. Yes it's f*cked up.

I remember there was an RCMP got charged in Vancouver for unsafely entering an intersection and killed somebody in the accident? A couple years ago?

what if the girl had the right-of-way (she was going straight through a green light) and didn't see the cop coming because the hill blocked her view? there are plenty of these blind intersections around the city. Emergency vehicles are never supposed to enter an intersection against their right of way without first ensuring it's safe for them to enter. that means slowing down for the intersection, not blowing through it like you own the galaxy.

this i understand, because in theory the oncoming car may not have been able to stop safely for the red light. in practice this gets heavily abused by people who know that there are no cops present and run the lights because they can't be bothered to stop and wait for two minutes.

My friend did. It was at Humber College. The cop ran the stop sign and hit my boys front end, and the cop wanted to blame him for not looking first. Then my boy proved he was wrong. Not much damage though, the cop was going kinda slow. My boys front bumper needed to be replaced though.

Yea right of way is the key. Now we don't know who has the right of way - the girl or the cop. I mean if the girl was turning into the intersection from a side street, and the cop was coming from a through street, the cop has the right of way even tho the officer was going double the speed limit....

I never seen a fire truck or ambulance races through intersections.... always cops.

my dad got hit by a green hornet pulling out of a laneway downtown. no signal no shoulder check or anything. t-boned my dad's car, He started whooping and hollering until the pastor of the church who's laneway he pulled out of started reading him the riot act. With a pastor backing you up you're sure to get your way, and we did, the police paid for everything through their insurance.

well just to clear some stuff up...the girl was stop at the stop sign looked both ways NO TRAFFIC NO SIRENS, proceeded to make a left hand turn she almost made the whole turn and the cop came over the hill (too fast and hit her (with 3 of her nephews all under 10yrs old in the back). this intersection has alot of pedestrians because there is a corner store that sells ice cream, (so there is alot of kids playing around the street). Don't you think the cop would know about this intersection. (My gf saw most of the accident, and saw the skid marks from the cop cruiser) was at least over 100 ft, what would have happened if a family was walking across the street to get ice cream, and the cop came over the hill.

sounds to me like she used due diligence and it should have been the cops fault. as others have said, you never see a fire truck or an ambulance go tearing through an intersection; cops are no exception to the law.

the cop was simply going too fast and failed to ensure it was safe for him to enter the intersection - even if it was his right of way. if his sirens weren't on, then regardless of what the cop says, he was in the wrong, especially if he was speeding.

I'd like to see him get charged with reckless driving, street racing, speeding over 50km/h and have his cruiser impounded....

I remember reading a story in the Toronto Star a while back. I found this report:

http://www.tpac.ca/show_bulletin.cfm?id=83

"According to a February 19 report in the Toronto Star, one third of the 1600 Toronto police vehicles were involved in a collision in 2006. Last year was not unusual: the rate of collisions was higher the previous two years.

The Star learned this information after filing requests under the Freedom of Information Act. Reporters also reviewed 100 of these accident reports, and concluded that half the accidents were caused by the police, many, the report claims, a result of `inattention."

Ah, some of this info is incorrect. Police officers in the execution of their duties are allowed to exceed the speed limit. There is no set rate over the posted speed!! This only 20km/h is false. In saying that, all cars are equipped with GPS on top of all the standard vehicle recorders. The GPS downloads once the cars are parked back at the station and anything over 150km/h is automatically flagged and send to professional standards for a review. If you have no legitmate reason for the rate of speed then they are investigated and documented and/or charged accordingly. The dukes and hazard days are long long gone.

+1,

and cops has been in trouble with over speeding....there was an actricle on toronto star or w/e....some unmarked cop car was like 75 over speed limit...(for no specific reason) but I doubt they got their car removed or lost any points or fines. :AH
