first before my story with ali today, I like going to MOT, got my car there from Jeff and have had very good experiences so far, my first visit I was taken care of by Vincent. Was a very good experience, when my car was done he explained all the cost and answered any questions I had.

So today I go in for my 8 month service and unfortunately the only person that was available was Ali (heard some negative review about him from here) so already knew that this might not be the best of experiences. Anyways it started off ok, got my car in, was there for about an hour and a half, not to bad as MOT was busy. When my car was done Ali quickly rushed me to the cash register (hmm a lot different then my first service with Vincent) and he quickly left. I paid the bill, seemed a bit higher then my first service (thought it would be same price as its the same service) but really didn't pay to much attention as I was in a rush to get to a interview.

When I got home I looked over the bill and realized that ali scheduled rotation of my tires :bang I wasn't even asked if I wanted them rotated and I know its not in the service? When I went for my first service with Vincent he asked me if I wanted them rotated.

I know its to late now, should of checked there but should the rep not ask if you want your tires rotated instead of just doing it without your knowledge? Only reason I ask is I am putting on my summers this weekend so there was no point in rotating my winters.

usually there is a sheet that you sign declaring what is going to be done and to allow the mechanics to work on your car, if you did sign something and there is no memtion of tire rotation then you should be compensated. (well this is at my dealership....not MOT) not sure what their rules are or if they are the same at all mazda dealerships

I dont recall signing anything, but when I was showed the yellow work sheet it only had the 8month service on it (check belts, oil change and so on) as well as a note to put in syth oil. I also know when I went first time Vincent asked before the yellow print out ali did not say anything

Mazda recommends a tire rotation every 8,000 kms or, basically, every service interval.

If you requested, or signed for, the 8 month/16,000 km service package, you signed for the Tire Rotation. Failure of communication on Ali's part, and, hate to say, failure to read/know what you're signing for on your part.

8 month/16,000 km Recommended Service at Whitby Mazda (http://www.whitbymazda.com/en/service/maintenance/index.spy?presetmakeid=&make=Mazda&model=3&year=2008&lcarids=1083900103|GT#dropmenu), which should be similar to MOT's service recommendations.

hmm on my invoice it says 16k includes lubrication, oil/filter change, checking all fluid levels, air filter, TIRE CONDITON AND PRESSURE (not rotation), all lights, belts and hoses

I was under the impression that tire rotation is seperate if we ask for it and not automatically included into the service and charged seperately. Also I do not recal signing anything, he just showed me the yellow work sheet to show that he added to keep oil synth heh, its no biggie, was an extra $20 but I think ali should of asked if I wanted them rotated (since it is getting close to spring and most people are taking off there winters, no point in rotating them :P)

about an hour away from me and would be to out of the way for a $20 issue, just bringing up the fact I should of been informed they were going to do it as in the first service when I got asked if I wanted it done or not.

Call them and let them know. They may give you a $20 credit on your next visit.

Tire rotation is not included in the task list and base price on any of the regular Mazda service intervals. At least, it has not been on any of my Mazda's serviced previously and not at any of the dealerships I have ever been to for service.

They do recommend you do it minimum at every 16K service, but it is always something they ask you about first and then charge extra if you say yes. It is not part of the scheduled service price nor mandatory services task list. Many dealers will ask you on each 8K service also.

You should go back to MOT about this as you did not sign off to have your tires rotated and it is not in their maintenance schedule, except as a recommended service, which means optional and above regular cost.

From my experience at MoT, you are always given a work order to sign before any work starts on your car. Make sure you read over that work order; it will say things like tire rotation. Finally, always check your invoice before you pay it. The receptionists there are generally very nice and if you tell them you need to talk to service about something, they'll generally let you do it.

Long story short, I think you should have been told about the tire rotation (I'm usually asked, even by Ali, if I want it done), but always double-check everything before you sign.

My last service appointment which I went through Vincent produced the same result. I ended up paying extra for that tire rotation that was not discussed or mentioned to me prior to being done and was in the same boat that was in a rush to get somewhere. I noticed it the next day when glazing over my invoice.

Not too pleased with that either but considering I signed, paid and they did it, don't think I can do much. I feel like the rotation needed to be done however after putting some good mileage on the car so I'm just not going to rotate them in the near future.

I already warned MoT that when I bring it in in two weeks, NO tire rotation.

, Ive counted at least 10 people having problems with this guy

That's only the people online and who posted about it. Think of how many Mazda owners are not on these forums!

Why don't you guys just set up appointments with the other Service Advisors? Get their extensions or their email addresses, that way you don't ever have to deal with Ali?

or don't just rely on the service advisor to tell you what you need done; part of car ownership involves knowing the basic maintenance. if you book your appointment with "I want this, this and this" done, there's a smaller chance you'll get surprised by something.

MoT has the recommended maintenance schedule posted on the wall; if all else fails, read that first.

and if you don't want a particular service, explicitly state that.

Its stated in your owners manual, that tire rotation is required every 8000km or every service. Therefore it is required to rotate tires every 8000km and dealer would charge you as a standard procedure. You may ask them not to rotate tires, but you have to make sure you do it on your own time. If you dont tell them, they will charge you.

I understand that Ali may not be the greatest, but in this case once again its not his fault, he is just doing his job and making sure your car is safe, including tires.
