05 Mazda3 sedan missing a piece off of the rear bumper ?

Hey guys.. just bought an 05 Mazda3 sedan. Had it for a few days now but upon closer inspection, I noticed there is a missing piece off of the rear bumper, just on top of the license plate. There seems to be a place for clips and brackets to go through it but I am not sure what this part is called. If anybody has any idea what this part is and if someone can send me a picture of what is supposed to be in that area besides a gaping hole, please let me know so I can purchase the part.

i got the same "gaping hole" in my car from day one...

i don think there is anything that goes in there. mine is like that too and a few ive changed the plate bulbs are like that too if i recall

I just thought it was weird... not that I've gone and looked at my other cars in spots like that. The only reason why I noticed it was because I was trying to change the license plate holder. "Gaping hole" was the best way for me to describe it hahaha. Thought maybe there was a black plastic trim that sits in there or maybe a clear lens or something...

Are both of your licence plate lights there? They should be in that spot and lighting up your licence plate!

Us sedan owners only get 1 license lamp. You can add an extra lamp if you want but it will cost you a little coin to get the hatchback one's. I'm debating on adding a third just to fill that spot.

All sedans from 04-09 have that gaping hole.

Ahh, Didn't know they changed it from 1 light to 2 lights per the different models... Weird!

Yeah it doesn't make sense to why they did that. I recently added the hatch one's to my sedan. Pretty bright since I put the LED bulbs in but fills in that ugly gap.

Obviously because someone decided that it was more important that the hatch licence plates are nice and visible! No idea why :chuckle
