View Full Version : Retrofit Push Start Button
Now that the 2010 models have a push start button instead of a key, will there be an easy way to retrofit my key ignition with this option?
Is it more complex than just buying the part and wiring it?
Anybody put some thought into this?

for a push start, you still have to have a key in the ignition... (pre 2010)
Its like buying a (ignited) aftermarket push button start.

To get the real benefit, you'd have to replicate the RFID system so you don't have to insert your key at all.
Putting in your key, turning it to on (not start) then hitting a button would be the same as just turning the key to start. Besides a red button on your dash.
I was hoping to eliminate the key altogether like Gizzmo says. Replicate the RFID (what's that stand for?) would be good. Is that hard to do or just expensive?

Radio-frequency identification (RFID)
Expensive, because it is a communication system. You'd need to make a remote (fob) and receiver (car).

The real trick would be the ignition column lock. Does that even exist on the '10s?

I just picked mine up today my 2010 that is and i have the keyless option and yes the steering lock does exist such a nice feature.
Adding it on after the fact will require a new key new ignition with the transfer technology it will cost a fortune

How about...
Get a remote start and a push button and have the button push the remote start?
lol.

we already have a push button start/pedal...insert key, turn key all the way, THEN step on your clutch...hehe...
it'd be cool to do the "keep your key in your pocket" bit tho...like the Euro-cars...but I think it's more hassle than it's worth in convenience...if there's a kit and it's an easy retro-fit with the current flip key, then it'd be worth considering...

I was thinking of putting the Engine Start button in my '09, just trying to find somewhere to put the button. Any suggestions? I tried searching the forum but I haven't seen anyone do it yet.

This is something i would love to have in my 08.5 but its just too much of a hassle/cost...
even if i did manage to do it, i would get kinda ticked off from having to insert/turn the key, step on the clutch and press the button...
too much for me lol:bana2
