So I have an appt at Simply Tire tomorrow afternoon to have a set of 17" Sumo Akina ST-09 tires installed.

Does anyone have any experiences with this brand? Any thoughts or comments?

Here is a link to the only info I could find:
http://www.1010tires.com/tire.asp?tirebrand=Sumo&tiremodel=Akina+ST-09

Thanks.

This would be the first time I am even hearing about this brand.
From the ratings in the link provided, it seems like a good buy, but im sure you will provide us with a review :)

Sold a bunch (3 sets today actually). For the money they are a decent tire! Good treadwear too.

The Falkens are quieter, but of course cost more. Its that old adage "you get what you pay for".

So although I've only had the Sumo Akina tires on for a few hours, I'm very impressed so far. The quality is very good considering the price. Not noisy at all. Tread is excellent.

Honestly, my experience is cheap tires are cheap for a reason...but if they're good enough for what you're doing then more power to you.

comparing the tread design of the posted tire with other tires (such as Yokohama S.Drive), this tire should do very well in the rain.

What is the rating on the tire (UTQG)?

I was just thinking the exact same thing, they look a lot like my tires. I doubt that the compound is the same though. good luck with them though I know with my s.drives driving in the rain might as well be the same as in the dry.

+1... I doubt the compound is the same either. Like mentioned above, you pay for what you get.... and if I get out of this a reliable daily tire to get to and from work, then I'm more then happy. Alot of the guys on this forum have seen how I drive and know that I'm not an agressive driver at all.

Simply Tire installed a set of 205 50 17 on my Mazda5. This was yesterday around 430pm before the heavy rain fall. Didn't notice the noise until after reading this thread and going for a drive this morning. Awesome in the rain! Headed North on 404 at 110km/hr. Performance is awesome in the rain, stable feel and I didn't feel the scare of driving aggressively in heavy rain pour.

Great tire for it's price. My dad's taking the 5 to Quebec today for the weekend until Monday. I've asked him to pay attention to how it performs in long distance runs.

Feel like I'm late for the wedding on this one.

Yes I'm running 18" ST-09 on my car. I love the aggressive look and the performance is still as good as last year when I bought them. At first I thought no big deal what's a little noise. However, as the tires wear the noise does get louder so be for warned. Considering how light our cars are the noise at times penetrates into the cabin very effectively. If your stereo is running you don't notice it as much. But there are times when I just don't want to listen to music and I just want nothing on. Then you really hear the sound from the tires. It's especially prominent when you're braking. I'm also wondering it 18" vs 17" makes a difference.

I knew what I was getting into when I bought the tires and really have no regrets because it was within my budget at the time. So I put the issue of noise on the back burner of priorities. If you're the type that easily annoyed by the small things in life you'll hate these tires.

Then just crank the window & sunroof and gun it. Listen to the PRM :chuckle

These tires are great for someone who is on a budget, or just needs tires for the summer or 2.

Brand names are good, but for the budget application, you will be pleased!

Dont ask me where I got mine or I will give you the "search button" speech :chuckle

Just wanted to thank everyone on here for this thread! I bought a set of these tires used along with rims from another forum member and recently had them mounted on my 3. I opted not to get them balanced at first, but then after hearing the tire noise I got worried and went ahead and got them balanced. Sound was a little better, but still pretty loud, especially at low speeds and braking, as some of you pointed out. Thankfully, before freaking out I searched here and found this thread that put my mind at ease. I have no problem with the noise, I was just worried there was something wrong with the tires! I've been running on 17" General Exclaims since I bought my car back in 2006, and the tires didn't give off any noise at all so going from them to the Akinas are a big change!
