View Full Version : How to clean alloy rims
They are few weeks old but already dirty.
Would car wash soap remove the dirt? I have heard of people using WD40 on rims. Is it a safe? I was look at rim cleaners at WalMart but they hace acid in them.

Soap would probably work fine.
I bought Armor-All rim cleaner ($8.99 at CT) and it took off the nasty baked on yellow brake dust, and left them nice n clean lookin like new! Just a suggestion! :)
I use car wash soap...when i am done washing my car i then have another wash mit that i only use for my tires and rims and then i use the same water and soap that i used to wash the rest of car and clean the rims and tires

Same. That's all it usually takes is soap and a mitt unless they are really really bad.

I usually wash my car at least once a week and all i use is the car wash soap as well...
just be sure to make it the last thing you do when washing the car and use a different mitt/sponge...
i use a mitt for the car and a small sponge with an abreasive pad on one side of it for that baked on dust...

Unless your rim is spotless without scratches, it is advised to only use soap. I think those wheel cleaners are very abrasive, and once it seaps inside a crack, in time it can eat away the finish if not rinsed properly.
To be safe I just use soap and a strong stream of water to wash it off.
