I'm swapping my GT LED tail lights with aftermarket style LED tail lights and I've come up with a snag. Trying to see what the easiest solution might be.

Following are pictures to illustrate my problem...

Current plug from car (these plug into the current lights)

Plug that came with the new style of LED tails...

Now, I'm not good with electronics...at least on this level. As a test, for one of the lights, I bent the wire from the new lights and put it in the clip manually from the car and the lights work. But what would be the simplest solution for this?

I'm guessing find a place that has wire and those tap connector things and just bypass the plugs? Or would that be a bad idea?

Any ideas?

Thanks

LOL...already got a person who called dibs before. If something falls through with that though, I'll put them up for grabs in the FS section.

The bulbs on your old lights are in an adapter. The adapter locks into the tail light housing, and the harness plugs into the adapter. So...

Take the adapters from your old tail lights. Remove the bulbs. Plug the wires from the new tail lights into the adapter (the end where you pulled out the bulbs), and then lock the adapter into the new tail light. Plug in the harness...

I have stock LED lights...there is no break bulb. I thought of that and when I take that section out, the 3 wires for that clip are attached directly to a circut board which I'm guessing is what controls the stock LED breaks.

Unless I can buy adapters like the old bulbs come in from somewhere to make it direct plug in?

You can get the adapters from a Mazda Dealer for about $4.50 a piece... Andrew @ Oakville Mazda sourced a couple of the ones for the backup lights for my HID project.

Sweet...Honestly, I never thought of that lol.

I'll have to drop by tomorrow and see if they have any (doubt it) or can order some for me.

This is why I asked lol.

Those are the black style LED tails right?

The BLACK connector in your pics is supposed to go into the socket where you would put the taillight BULB in.

Since your car comes with the OEM LEDs, your only choice is to use a voltmeter and check the voltage/amperage going through each of those pins. One will be a ground, one will be brakes, one will be taillights.

Once you figure that out, you have to figure out on the BLACK STYLE LEDs which is Ground, breaks and taillights.

Then you have to splice them in and match them. Each taillight (OEM and Black style) should have 3 wires. You just have to match the three wires together. Wire them directly since you can't use the connectors.

Just be careful. Splicing the wires will void any warranty you have on either taillight.

Yes, those style lights. However Noisy Crow pointed out I could just go to Oakville Mazda and get the sockets the regular bulbs go in and it will work. Already done and problem solved :bana2

Though I had already figured out which cord went where since I tested them out...but now, it's plug & play!
