The Iberostar Costa Dorada. check it out online. Rated numero uno in Puerto Plata!! Ahhhhh. I cannot wait. ALL GIRLS VACATION. ohhh the shenanigans that will be had. I'll be sure to warm up the beaches for you!! :D

p.s go to a travel doctor and inquire about any travel precautions for Punta Cana if you haven't done so already. :)

Was in Punta Cana early January...

I stayed at the Ocean Sand resort and it was the best. I personally didn't care for any of the excursions this time around though, just didn't find them all that interesting. My father in law just came back from the Occidental Grande in DR and said it was great. I stayed with Occidental when I went to Mexico over a year ago and it was an awesome resort, they really take care of you.

HAVE FUN!!! :)

oh, and you guys planning on going might want to think about getting Malaria pills.. I got mine!!

I had to go to a travel clinic to get them.. the doctor at the travel clinic said to be as cautious as you like.. ie, only drink bottled stuff, such as water, alcohol, and fruit punch (incl mixed drinks).. of course the doctor said not all resorts are bad but just be weary and don't think that all resorts are totally 100% clean..

You guys are killing me!!! I went last year, I stayed at the Blue Bay, Playa Dorada in Puerto Plata, resort was for 18 years or older, we LOVED IT! I think is rated # 4 in Puerto Plata area and we can't wait to go back, I recomend you this club inside Playa Dorada complex in the little plaza, open every night, good after midnight though, I'll try to remember the name and let you know later but its the best party in Puerto Plata.

I'm not too worried about Malaria, at least not in Puerto Plata. My travel doctor advised it's safe there right now, and advised my girlfriends (who are all paro) to stop taking them because they aren't really needed. He did however suggest that if we were going to Punta Cana to indeed take them as it's way more common at that part of the island.

If I recall you cannot drink alcohol when taking Malaria pills... A friend of mine was going to get them until the pharmacist said that. Unless it was for something else... but I think it was for Malaria.

hmmm... safe from Malaria and not drinking at an all-inclusive resort... you know what her decision was! :)

- be prepared for really greasy food
- ask for the top shelf booze, the local stuff gave nasty hang-overs
- bring lotsa high SPF suncreen because beach shade is hard to come by, all the places I've stayed at had people "reserving" shaded beach spots by 7AM

- immodium, tylenol/aspirin/advil, bandages, mosquito repellant ( mosquitos came out on the calm days)

pepto bysmol is your friend, or at least it is mine :) I really have a weak stomach but I enjoy trying out different foods.

Just a note, beaches in Puerto Plata are not as nice as in Punta Canada (still good though). The sand is not as white and the water is not as clear. Also, a major thing that got to me about the beaches of two resorts that I was at there were that most of them were covered in coral reef rock as the majority of beaches on that side of the island is on top of a reef. Depending on which resort you end up at you may get lucky and not come across it to much but if you do, you may want to look into those rubber shoes.

I got cut up pretty bad a few times :)

I will now be going to Punta Canada and not Peurto Plata as I find the resorts are higher class, better food and better entertainment.

For excursions, you may want to look into the horse back riding (enjoyed that a lot, 30 bucks and you ride a horse on the beach, town or even into the water). ATVs and scooters are fun but might be a little dangerous for a smaller group of females. Make sure to mostly look into tours organized/endorsed by the hotel or the airlines. There are a lot of shady folks trying to sell you on a lot of stuff at the beach. In peurta plata the city towrs and the fort (if you can call it that) is fun but I enjoyed the Brugel rum factory especailly. Got like 10 1.5 bottles of rum and 90/100 proof (stuff they wont let on planes) for $1 each!

Always haggle, never agree to the first, second or tenth price that gets thrown your way when you are looking to buy anything. Don't be afraid to turn away and walk because more than 90 % they will chase you down and try to pay.

Try the MAMAJUANA (or Dominican Viagra) as they call it. Its one nasty drink but surely wakes you up and has you going and ejoying yourself day and night!

Hope this helps.

OK Now I'm jealous. Need a vacation to DR RIGHT AWAY :)

Went to Punta Cana last September stayed at the Grand Paradise Bavaro, very nice hotel, great food/drinks, staff was amazing they were all so friendly and really went out of their way to make sure the guests were having a good time.

Best part of my trip was that besides spending money the whole trip was FREE!!! Gotta love work perks.

I recommend a strong suit case lock. My gf's luggage was broken into on the way home, after it was checked in at the airport. Stole about $600 worth of clothes and stuff. Crazy!

But I love it in DR (Punta Cana). Found the Malaria pills gave some serious stomach / diarhea, but I stayed Malaria free, so I'm happy. And yes, you can drink while taking the pills, but I dont think I'll use them again lol.

Enjoy your trip, that's all I can reccommend.

Not really, if they want to get into your luggage they will.
