Power Steering gone while my brother was driving.

So here is the story... today i was sleeping and i woke up to a great sound.. my brother comes in my room and tells me that while he was driving my car he broke the power steering somehow. F***********************K. im pissed and he wont be driving it anymore after this.. im that mad. anyway for all of you who know... is this covered under warranty... cuz really if its gonna cost alot (and if that damn piece of plastic underneath the car costs 270$ its gonna rape me) then im gonna drive around without power steering.:bang

What was he doing? Did you check your ps fluid level? Any leaks? Your car is an 08 right? That's kinda scary that it would just up and fail like that... But I think I remember reading about some recall, not sure if the 08's were affected tho.

well i dunno... he said all of the sudden it just died.. yea my car is an 08 so its gonna be like bah. but i dunno im gonna take it into mazda... its gotta be fixed under warranty.

wtf??? outta no where..did u stop the engine and turn it back on again to see if it kicked in or is it gone for good?

yea he stopped if for 5 minutes and turned it back on.. no difference. still doesnt work. and i just got it back from the window thing. bahh

I'm pretty sure this is a common issue, I don't think it was your bro's fault so don't be so hard on him! Could have happened just as easily if you were driving. :)

Mine went this week..... My car is a 2008 also.

I have a yaris as my loner car until the dealership can fix mine.... lame. Its so common even the rental car lady knew I had a 3 the moment I said my power steering failed. I am not pleased to say the least, how do you expect us uni guys to pick up high school girls in a yaris? jk

hahah ^^ so now its the power steering pump but wont be in for a few weeks. im like well wtf is it gonna go again... he told me it will go in and out... i said great.... so ill be on the 401... going 120-130 and its gonna cut out. greeeeeeeat

Update: I have now been waiting two weeks for my car and still no luck. They told me it may be another week and a half!!!!! 3 weeks of no driving a 11 month old car...... starting to get pissed.

Well I do not want to discourage you. But mine died also.. It has now been 3 weeks today...

My dealer rented me a crappy Nissan Versa... They told me that they would get my PS pump last week. I called in last Monday only to find out that they still did not have the pump and they were not able to provide me with a straight answer as to when the part would arrive.

There for I was pissed at them and I decided to give Mazda Canada a call to get a straight answer. I explained the problem to the Customer Service lady at Mazda Canada. She looked into the parts situation for me and informed me that the PS pump would be back order for at least one month. This back order seems to be caused because Mazda has stopped the production because they have discovered a flaw in the pumps design and they are currently re engineering it. This means that there are a bunch of Mazda 3 owners that are screwed and will have a PS pump failure some time soon.

With this information I then call my dealer again to tell them that there was no way that I would accept driving a Versa around for a month. I demanded for them to give me a equivalent car. They called the rental place and swapped out the Versa for a Mazda 3 2010 Brand new right off the factory floor... With this ride I can now wait for the parts to arrive from Japan for my Mazda 3

If you wonder... Even if I am driving around the 2010 model... I still cant wait to get my 2008 ride back. Driving a rental car a is never like driving your ride around.

Don't drive it too much, if at all without the PS pump working, you can wreck your rack that way. They are meant to be used with hydraulic pressure. If you do drive it for a bit, you may find your steering is sloppy when you get it fixed.

I called my dealer this morning and the pump was supposed to arrive today... But it did not... What a surprise for the third time... They told me it would be and other week or two...

i gotta call them to deal with it. its like ive been waiting 2 weeks and so far nothing and i feel it going.. it works and it just dies a little bit at a time.

Did they replace your fluid lines and the pump? I am trying to understand how come they were able to fix your car so fast when my dealer is still waiting for parts. On Monday it will be 6 weeks for me.
