My car is really becoming quite the issue lately.

Lately, there has been grinding in the brakes and earlier I had mentioned I heard it only when turning the wheel, well now, today while I drove my daughter to school, the brakes were grinding upon application and also when I did not apply them. What the %%$ is going on?

They look ok, except for the right front looks like the pad is flaking off in places.

HELP.

Wonder if one of your brakes have seized?

I hope not :(

If thats the case, are any parts of the brakes covered still under the 3 yr/80 K warranty???

were your brake pads replaced at any point? something like uneven wear usually points to a sticking caliper and the right front pad flaking off sounds like it is overheating from being "stuck" to the rotor.

have you had the maintenance performed where they clean and lube the caliper sliders and such (should be the major service intervals like 24k, 48k, etc)?

if so, maybe you have a case for replacing a sticking caliper under warranty (easier for a dealership to say the part failed even when scheduled maintenance were performed).

if not, you may be SOL.

Never replaced. Did not do the full 48 K service and the lady at MoT who books the Service appt said the Full 48 K was not necessary. I KID YOU NOT

if your pads have never been replaced, now might be the time to do so.

pads are a consumable and are not covered under any warranty outside of the 12month/20,000kms regardless if scheduled maintenance was performed or not.

if cost is a factor, cheap pads from Canadian Tire will suffice and then take it to Jimmy's to have him install it...or some weasel on here who will work for beer :chuckle

If it's just pads, I'm in the Scarborough area and will do it for a 12pack of Smirnoff's.

PM me if you need.

Cheers.

Correct, but they probably should have done your brakes. If you decided not to have them serviced, it might be on you. If they did do the service you should have them look at them. I would still have someone look at them. Let us know what they say.

I doubt the pads have worn down that much to cause any grinding but you never know. If they are that low you may have rotor issues as well. I doubt it though.

No more grinding while I did not have my foot on the brakes today.

However, when I take the car in next week, going to have the brakes looked at. I will keep you all posted. Also, if I did not do the 48 K service, why would the brakes be acting up at only 56 k?

if the brakes have never been serviced, it may be possible that the grease inside the caliper (on the caliper pins) may have dried and the pins don't move properly anymore.

I have no idea how long the brake pin grease is supposed to last.

Funny you should mention that. I saw a Mercedes yesterday with that problem.

Could your e-brake be stuck maybe?

No more grinding when the foot is off the pedal. I think there might have been some road grime in it. I am still taking it in next week as planned

I think that's just brake dust, no? Pretty sure that's common... and comes off easy with some Pro Solve Rim Cleaner yeeahhh!!!!! :chuckle No seriously though mine and my mom's 3 both have the same yellow dust.

Les, glad to hear it's not happening anymore... must have been scary/annoying though :whoa
