Buying new rims..... do I need the Tire Pressure Monitoring System sensors? If I don't have them what will happen? They aren't used for the ABS are they?

No...TPMS wasn't included in the Canadian models.

I asked my dealer and they gave me a quote for them for my MS3.

Wasn't it made mandatory for 2008 on all vehicles?

In the US it is mandatory unfortunatly we got screwed again. My 2010(which i sfully jammed) owners manual says it has it but there is nothing on the dash that indicates that the car has it as the tpm light is MIA in the cluster. Also had a flat on friday luckily i noticed it visually as the car does not come equipped with it :(

If you have a US car like me then you might have them... and you don't need them on your new rims ... i heard you shouldn't take them off your factory rims because it might leak or something in your new rims... I would leave them on your factory rims for winter or whatever.
You will just get a flashing or solid TPMS light on your dash at all times (which is an ! mark with squigly lines around it).

Forgot to mention some systems just have regular valve stems as some of the more sophisticated systems will actually show you the actual pressure of the wheel or be able to tell you which one is flat.
Notoriousb- You can take the sensors from your rims its not that they will leak but the fact that if you are not careful with the handling from one rim to another they can potentially brake. At 200$+/- a piece is it something you really want to play with?
