View Full Version : Irritating Noise Coming From Front Right Tire

Not sure how to best explain this but once I get close to 80-100km/h I get this irritating dull noise, as if a small stone is stuck in the tread of the tire. The noise is there at lower speeds too but its pretty hard to hear. The noise gets louder as you speed up.
Im guessing its my wheels thats needs some balancing but im not sure. Ive switched over to my summer rims for about a month now but the noise has just surfaced, is it possible that my lead weights might have fallen off?
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks.

If you switched wheels and you still hear the noise, more than likely it is not the ballancing but have that checked anyways. You might have other issues.

Thanks for the reply. Yea I think im gonna take it in to avante sometime this week hopefully. When you said I might have other issues any ideas what it could be? I hope nothing serious. The car is under warranty but still less problems the better.

Wheel balance does not cause a noise it causes a vibration. Check the edges of your tires run your hands across them They should be smoothe. If they are choppy that is called feathering. In most cases it is the material that is used in the tire and the camber set up on the vehicle. I see this alot at work Apparently tire companies (especially bridgestone) have fixed this issue by changing the compunds in their tires and call them the "updated" versions. If the edges of your tires are fine try swirving left and right obviously when no one is around and listen if the noise gets louder if you go left the right side is affected if you go right and the noise gets louder the left side is affected. If that is the case it may be one of your wheel bearings. If that is not the case check your brake rotors to see if there is any blue on them that may mean that one or more calipers are siezed. Theres to many options can you try and narrow the sound dow a bit?

Thanks McGuyver, I checked out my tire today. There doesn't seem to be any feathering, at least I don't think so. I think its the wheel bearings though, I read up a bit on similar situations people were having on the boards.
Regardless the car is under warranty so I've booked an appointment with Avante for Tuesday(earliest they had) lets see what happens. I hope they don't give me grief for being on after market rims and tires and being lowered. Their service has always been good, lets hope it stays that way.

they will probably tell you that its your tires but you know to tell them otherwise. Did you try kinda swirving to see if the noise got louder or quieter when you truned depending on the corner you went in to?
