So, I was getting my oil changed and took a look under the hood. I noticed that the DRL and FOG relay's are both right close to each other in the engine bay. I was wondering if anyone has tried to swap the DRL's here........ It would be as simple as running the signal wire from the DRL location to the FOG signal and then pulling the DRL relay.....Let me know, cheers

I didn't switch the relay... what I'm doing though (like a lot of members with 07+) is after doing my indy fog mod, my fogs can go on and off independently of the entire foglight system. So, I just leave my fogs on and I pulled out my DRL fuse. Therefore, no more DRL, with fogs turned on = fogs as DRL lol. Benefit to this method is that in order to get my lights back to stock (most people won't notice that the fogs WORK without having headlights on..and if they do, they probably wouldn't mind), all I have to do is put the DRL fuse back in (which is what I do when my car is in for servicing)

I haven't done your method though so it'd be interesting to see if anyone has tried it.

I think i'll try it but just so i don't back feed the PJB, i'll put in a relay between the fog relay and PJB.... I'll post a diagram when complete.

i am sorry but you lost me in your last post basically all you have to do is use a relay and hook it up this way
relay# 2 wired
87a=power to fogs as drls
86=(+)trigger from parking lamps (otherwise your fogs will not turn off)I think if memory recalls correctly its orange/blue wire
85=ground
30=(+)power from drl wire

The only problem you are going to have is that everytime you flash to pass someone your fogs will come on aswell. Not a big issue. But issue #2 is if you wanted HID fogs you are going to run in to the flickering issue due to the half current voltage hence you need an 87A relay to run the DRL mod.

Can't say about the '09s, and I didn't look too close at the '08s with halogens. But...

On the '08s with HIDs the DRLs are on the highbeams and work by connecting the bulbs in series (ie. each running at 6 volts).

There is more than just the DRL relay involved, there is also the relay for turning the high beams on and off as well as the main switch for the head lamps. I can't quite recall the details, but I know the wiring diagram confused the heck out of me (it's across three sections of the manual) until I figured out that "ground" connection for one of the headlamps was connected to +12V when the high-beams were switched "off".

OOO yea thanks for bringing that up i completely forgot about that. Goes to show i dont play with the drls much on the 07 and up models. As far as i know the headlights are hooked up through negative pulse which means consistantly powered and when wanted in use gets grounded. Do you happen to have the mannual for the 07 and up wiring? I have it for the 03-06 but not for 07-09. Please post up if you can i would be more then willing to check it out.

I have the '08 wiring and shop manuals.... I will check the wiring for halogens. As noted, for the HIDs the highbeams are connected up so that when the highs are off the common +12V floats and the ground for the left bulb goes to +12V.

I am going to do this if the drawing I have is correct

file:///C:/DOCUME%7E1/Eric/LOCALS%7E1/Temp/moz-screenshot.jpghttp://i434.photobucket.com/albums/qq61/PuckBag_2008/th_HeadlightwithautolightsystemA-1.jpg (http://s434.photobucket.com/albums/qq61/PuckBag_2008/?action=view&current=HeadlightwithautolightsystemA-1.jpg)

Can anyone confirm as correct for 2009. I don't want to rip apart the car to confirm it.

You need to put the picture file on a host like Photobucket and link it there... the pic you posted is on your local drive, so you are the only person that can see it....

I don't see the DRL relay and associated circuts...

Got this one, but there is no auto lights, that's why I'm hesitant

I still don't see it...

For the auto-lights, that is just an input to the computer, just like the the regular headlight switch. The difference with auto is that the computer looks at light levels to turn the headlights on and off rather than just using the on/off setting of non-auto lights. The rest of the headlight wiring (not couting the light sensor wired to the computer) is the same.

Running light relay is just below the micro-computer to the right....

You actually need "DRL Relay" or "Daytime Running Lights". The one you pointed out only connects to the tail lights -- different kind of running light, turns the tail lights on at night.

Yeah, its not the same as my car....I'll look and see tomorrow.

So it turns out the 2009 Canadian GT wiring is not the same as the drawings I have. The DRL relay is fed power, from the DRL fuse, to the N.O side of the relay. This means that I'll have to switch the Common wire on the relay, not the N.O.

I tested it last night and it works just fine, after I changed the DRL fuse from 10 amps to 15 to match the fog light fuse size.

Once this is done I'll post the pics and step by step......This should involve rerouting 1 wire....

So, here goes:

Step 1: Change the DRL fuse from 10 to 15 Amps
Step 2: Disconnect the battery
Step 3: Separate the Relay box under the hood
Step 4: Locate the Red & Green wire that goes to the N.O. contact of the fog relay.http://i434.photobucket.com/albums/qq61/PuckBag_2008/29-05-09_2205.jpg

Step 5: Cut the wire, strip both ends and put both ends in one end of a red butt connector. This will make it easier to install the shrink tube.
Step 6: I added a jumper to lengthen the wire from step 5.
Step 7: Find and cut the Green & Silver wire that connects the PJB to the Common contact of the DRL relay.http://i434.photobucket.com/albums/qq61/PuckBag_2008/29-05-09_2154.jpg

Step 8: Connect the jumper from Step 6 to the end of the Green & Silver wire that comes from Common tab of the DRL Relay.

At this point if you reconnect everything your DRL's are now on your fog lights. However, if you turn your fogs on with your headlights on, you will pop the Fog fuse. This is because your driver side high beam is run through the N.C. contact of the DRL relay. So here's how we fix that:

Step 9: Find the Black & Silver wire that is connected to the N.C. contact of the DRL relay and cut it.
Step 10: You should still have a cut Green & Silver wire that comes from the PJB. Connect this to the Black & Silver wire that you cut in Step 9. Make sure that you connect to the portion of the wire that goes away from the relay box.
Step 11: Cover the left over Black & Silver wire, re assemble the relay box and reconnect the power.

Schematically it looks like this:http://i434.photobucket.com/albums/qq61/PuckBag_2008/WIRECONNECTIONS.jpg
If you did it right here's what you get:

Fogs only, formerly known as DRL's:http://i434.photobucket.com/albums/qq61/PuckBag_2008/FOGSONLY.jpg

Fogs and Parking:http://i434.photobucket.com/albums/qq61/PuckBag_2008/FOGSMARKERS.jpg

Highs:http://i434.photobucket.com/albums/qq61/PuckBag_2008/HEADSHIGHS.jpg

Any questions let me know, and Cheers.
