View Full Version : Occasional CEL...

I'm sure it's something to do with my CAI/MAF, but i'm getting CELs from time to time, and it's becoming more often. The code reader produces P0113 and P0113P, which means: http://www.obd-codes.com/p0113

Now, I hear some loud clicking (moreso than usual, sounds kinda like a sewing machine)... cause for concern?

Did you reset your ecu when you installed the intake? Things I would suggest are reset the ecu and clean the maf.

As for the noise, I find that a lot mods increase / amplify noises or create new ones. How many kms on your car?

I've reset the ECU a few times since I installed my CAI, but it's been working for about a year without issue. The car has 44k on it.

Sorry dude. I'm stumped but I bet sas can give you good tips.

Thanks Jason for your great faith in me.
Don’t know what means this last letter “P”.
This error is for open circuit of IAT sensor, nothing more. Bad contact or wire or, maybe, cracked wire to sensor itself (to this small drop on the MAF).
IAT hasn’t any electronic parts. It’s just the thermo-resistor. Service manual
has the complete description how to check IAT and harness. Can’t say what is clicking, readings of this sensor are changing a few engine parameters, more like injectors.

Hmm... So I thought this issue was only isolated to when moisture comes in contact with my CAI, but it's been pretty dry/hot in the GTA as of late, and I got the CEL again last night. I cleared it again, and it seems like it's fine...

Anyone have a copy of the service manual handy to check the aforementioned IAT/harness check procedure for me please?

The first, check resistance between pins D and E of MAF sensor . On cold engine should be 2-2.8 kOhm.
.
You will need in measurement of resistance of two wires of IAT sensor from MAF to PCM.
Main problem here is to guarantee the reliable contact when measuring.
The resistance of wires should be less then 0.5 ohm even if you moving harness. Interesting for you are terminals E and D of MAF harness connector.
Here we are returning to PCM incompatibility. The every version of PCM has absolutely different pins for IAT sensor.

Here are different variants for 2007 models.

MAF terminal ===============PCM terminal
Variant A
D WHT/BLU ===============1M WHT/BLU
E BRN/BLU ===============1AR BRN/BLU
..........................................1AS WHT/VIOLET
..........................................1AT BLK/BLU
..........................................1AV YEL

Variant B
...........................................1M not used
...........................................1AR BLK
...........................................1AS not used
D WHT/BLU ===============1AT WHT/BLU
E BRN/BLU ===============1AV BRN/RED

Variant C
..........................................1M BLK/RED
..........................................1AR BLK
E BRN/BLU ===============1AS BRN/RED
D WHT/BLU===============1AT WHT/BLU
..........................................1AV not used

You can print the PCM harness pins from here :http://www.davidgowenlock.co.uk/mazda3/esicont/en/srvc/html/B3E014018880W14.html

Determine from colors of wires on PCM harness the version which you have. Then measure resistance of wires.

Most like that you have a broken wire somewhere near from MAF sensor. I think it’s problem of most people who have the aftermarket intake. Harness is very short, intake vibrates and wires being broken. You can pull out the MAF connector, move it slightly and look place where harness being bent . Most like that wire broken in that place.
Don’t forget to disconnect battery or remove it to work more freely.

There is the more easiest way. Attach Scangauge or other OBD2 scanner. Set it to read intake air temperature and move harness.

Good gravy.

I always suspected it was the wiring for the MAF on my CAI, however it's already snapped once and has been extended/freed. That said, I don't think the guy extended all of the wires...

Likely not or he didn't do a good job of it!

I just have the stock intake but I still had a P0103 code get thrown.

Black ground wire was toast and had to be patched. Everything is good now though!

It was easy enough to test all of those wires, strip the harness and fix the broken one though.

If you are in the Scarborough area, I do some backyard mechanic work on occassion.

Cheers
