how much is the fine?
jaimie08mazda3
05-14-2009, 08:15 PM
52.50

05-14-2009, 08:16 PM
well next time slow down:chuckle can't really do anything for 15 over except pay the fine. its not really worth fighting
Always fight your tickets... Unless the court isnt in Toronto. ;)

15 over has demerits... I say fight it... to remove the demerits completely.
Thrizzl3
05-14-2009, 08:46 PM
lol i change my mind..fight the sucker:chuckle
lol
What I suggest you do, is call a paralegal and ask them for advice and what your odds are. If they seem confident, go defend yourself lol... Plead guilty with an excuse and hope they take pitty on you. Many of the reasons fighting a ticket in Toronto makes sense don't apply to Guelph I'm betting :(
jaimie08mazda3

nope 15 over = 0 points... 50$ ticket... 1-15 0 points 16-29= 3 points 30- 49= 4 points im not gonna bother fighting
dentinger
05-14-2009, 10:12 PM
bingo^
i got one of those once, just pay it off
when i fought my second ticket (or third), they said this was my last chance to get a ticket knocked down.
so, save it for a bigger one.
15 over/no demerits is nothing, imo.
STeeLy
05-14-2009, 10:16 PM
I thought it was only 5 over that carries no point
15 = no points, man up and pay the $52.50
Noisy Crow

nope 15 over = 0 points... 50$ ticket... 1-15 0 points 16-29= 3 points 30- 49= 4 points im not gonna bother fighting
It's your insurance premium you should worry about..........
Just FYI, it isn't about the demerit points... It's about your insurance. They usually forgive your first one, but then you have to drive like a saint for the next 3 years (or whatever it is)...
To insurance, all tickets count. The difference with points is that the insurance knows how fast you were going when you get demerit points. IE: If you get slapped with a 3 point ticket, insurance knows you were going between 16-29km/h over the limit.
I'm not trying to throw salt on the wound, to be honest this ticket is no big deal, but if this were a ticket you could fight, you should ALWAYS do so.
jaimie08mazda3
05-14-2009, 11:04 PM
i faught my first ticket.. this ticket i never plan on fighting.. because she had already given me a warning so to speak
dentinger
05-14-2009, 11:21 PM
and she already knocked it down on the spot, and just warned you about not having your license with you.
myself, i'd be happy with that, and wouldnt even think of fighting it.
like,
"uh, thanks for lowering my ticket to 15 over instead, but can you just drop it all together?"
im sure that would go over well hahhaa

WTF people? You can drive a car, you're old enough to know better. You sped, admitted it, man up and pay the fines. If you don't want your insurance to go up, DON'T SPEED!! Its not rocket science here!!
If you truly believe the radar was wrong and such, fight it. I don't argue that. But if you fight just to play the system, you need to grow up. Fines and increased insurances are a cost of playing the odds. You want to speed, accept the consequences. You are adults, act like it.
Okay, done my rant now....

a cop used to be on my hockey team, he told me fight anything with points, cuz it will almost always get reduced to less points or no points at all, however if they person has already reduced the fine, just pay it and move on.

if it doesnt say reduced on ur actual ticket go for a first attendance meeting and c if it can be brought down even the fine. you dont need a lawyer for this and it is free it is one of the options on the back of ur ticket

Why wouldn't I be? You think its better to clog up the court system and waste taxpayer's money? You would rather think of yourself and waste a police officer's time on his/her day off so they have to come to court instead of spending time with their family? Sure, they don't mind getting the OT pay, but who pays for that? Yep, us, the taxpayers...
And its not like I'm all innocent. 2 speeding tickets, one I fought (and lost) as to this day I don't believe I was speeding, especially not at the rate the claimed (82 in a 50), and the second, I was, so I manned up to it. If your insurance goes up, well, thats your own fault. Everyone knows it will happen, so if you are going to speed, accept the consequences. Like I said, its not rocket science!
Oh, BTW Jaimie, this isn't really aimed at you, no worries man! lol

This is wrong on so many levels... But it's your opinion so I'll respect it. Just like you should respect anyone who wishes to fight their ticket(s). I will say this though: If I received a speeding ticket and had to pay $100-350 and that was the end of it, then whatever I'd pay it and move on. But it doesn't stop there. At that point you aren't trying to get out of a speeding ticket really, you're trying to save your insurance rate for the next 3-5 years.

Yeah -- take a look at our stupid system -- EVERYONE SPEEDS -- EVERYONE... Even if it was a split second going over the limit you are breaking the law.
Now for us to pay a fine -- and have insurance rates jacked up sky high because of SOME of our silly speeding rules? -- and because a cop has to meet a quota on giving out tickets in a month? -- That money ends up in those donut eating pockets? Or say into the pockets of those insurance companies making billions in profit?
The system screws us every day of our lives -- and we should man up and play along? F YOU.
You play the system --- as much as it plays you ..
Get a court date --- get somoene to cover you and say you had an exam .. get a new court date ... find out if the cop is there ... ask for a reduction --- do whatever it takes to fight it. By that time -- a year or so has already gone by before (if) you are convicted .. and that means it hasn't been on your record for a year... that means less time it stays on your record.
The courts and cops are not your friends ... at the end of the day it is all business ... they don't give a shit about you.

I'm sure you got away with it sometimes... if you wanna man up so bad ... why don't you give your self in to the cops right now... give them a rough estimate of how much times you sped.. and ask them how much you owe... 2000 and 2003, those were my speeding tickets. Like I said, one I fought for a reason, which I totally agree with, the other, I accepted, both the ticket and the consequences. And have I got one since? Nope. Never been pulled over. Why? Because I learned my lesson and I use my head. If I chose to speed EXCESSIVELY as compared to the flow of traffic, I will accept the consequences once again, I'll MAN UP!
I pay very low rates for my insurance, and I like it that way, so I don't do stupid things like speed, especially close to the end of the month (quota time) The fact that you don't get pulled over more is because the cops ARE being nice and turning a blind eye to most everyone. If they started nailing people for going 110 on the 401, its the law, they have the right to do that. Would traffice suddenly slow down? Hell yes, its common sense!
You think you have to right to go to court and try and protect your insurance rates? You gave up that right when you decided to speed! Don't kid yourself, you aren't above the law, society owes you nothing, and learn to use common sense!
You do the crime, you pay the fine!

You know I don't recall talking about murderers. I was talking about paying a traffic ticket. And then getting double screwed over by the private profiteering insurance company because of it. You guys are such muppets ... or sheep more like it. People will be taking money from you your whole life.
You know, if you guys are such die hard authoritarians ... then I implore you to get together and turn your self in on every traffic offense you committed in your life -- every illegal u-turn... rolling stop at a stop sign ... not indicating ... speeding 10 over the limit... driving too slow.. every single so called "crime" --- and ask for your fine. Pay it please ... it will make up for the money I'll be wasting-- clogging up the court system :)

big ticket/dumb ticket: fight it
small ticket: screw it.
example 1: i got in a car accident a few years ago, it was wet out, lost control, and rolled the suv i was driving. 6 points, $325 fine, 30 day suspension. i fought that.
example 2: illegal right hand turn in TO. i did not see the "no right hand turn sign", and got nailed by a bicycle cop. i was unfamilar with the area, it was rush hour traffic, and i was just trying to get home. i tried to fight it, but couldnt find the court house.
piad it, and months later, got my money back cuz the cop didnt file the papers correctly.
example 3: 70 in a 40, first ticket, knocked down to 10 over on the spot. i paid it, done and done.

ANyone who speeds risks getting caught. If you speed, but no more than the cars around you, your risk is very low, and that society dictating things. If you decide to do 125 when traffic is doing 110, then don't be surprised when you get pulled over. You do 65 in a 50, and claim you were targeted because you have your car "personalized" (riced up), what the hell did you expect? That fart cannon attracts attention, from gawkers AND the popos!!! I was 18 and did the same thing, so I'm only charging you with "following too close". $90 fine and 4 points. I paid it.
Accident charges are very discretionary, and they tend to charge you with the max fine they can. If you feel differently, by all means fight it as I've stated from the beginning. How is that a hypocrit?

A cop saying its bogus is a matter of opinion. He wouldn't say "supposed to" unless the law dictated him to. You know, it's quite ridiculous that you use your life stories as a basis for your knowledge on statistics AND the law.
Your reference was to all traffic offenses --- I doubt you would disagree with that... since you paid a fine that stated you were following too close ...
In any case you still haven't answered my question ... you keep dodging it because it proves your hypocrisy ...
Is it still a crime if you don't get caught?
Because if you answer yes-- then by all means --- you should pay up (you already admitted to breaking the law on a regular basis) ... and do it quickly -- you could be the reason our taxes aren't leveling off.

If a tree falls in the forest and know one is aorund, does it make a sound? Don't ask stupid questions.
I have 18 years of driving experience under my belt, with much involvement in the auto industry as well as law enforcement to back me up, what do you have? Psyc 101 class?
Its not about morals and being mister abide by the law 100% of the time goodie 2 shoes. Its about breaking the laws, getting caught and owning up to it. Every time anyone speeds, doesn't signal their turn, rolling stops, etc, they take a gamble. If they get caught, you own up to it. If you get into an accident, and you get charged with carelss, but feel you should only have gotten "following too close", or feel extenuating circumstances beyond you control caused it, fight it! "pick you battles wisely", don't clog the court systems with BS because your daddy might have to pay more for your insurance.
I'm done here, find someone else to try your psycological BS on. :AH

My brain hurts... No use in bothering with this kid. He's always gonna try to get in the last word and think he has a valid argument, and someone else is just gonna jump in and embarrass him even more... "You're stupid" "no YOU'RE stupid..." Guess what, I'M TELLING!!!!!!! LOL
