So I attempted to install a entry level system into my car, a cheap 2 channel amp and two subs/speakers. I wired them all, and tried to wire it all up to my stock deck. So after a while we we wired it to the wires of the actual vehicle as per a guide I found on this site. A little while later, we turned the car on the system didn't work. And than we heard a snap noise and suddenly my car radio wasn't working anymore, my dome lights aren't working anymore, and my keyless entry doesn't work anymore, along with my speedometer, rpm and all other gauges pins fly all the way up now when I start the car. And the trip calculater resets everytime the car turns off.

Later on I realised that the power to the amp was wired completely wrong as I had told my friend to wire it to the positive terminal of the battery, and instead he wired it to negative and the other was grounded into the car body meaning it was negative to negative. Which could've been the cause. But either way, now my car is royally f**ked. Any advice..?

have you checked all of your fuses?

have you checked all of your fuses?

Yup, used a voltometer on every single one of them. All running 12 volts.

The constant power wire to the deck (yellow) is running 12 volts, meaning the deck is getting power. But the virgin wires (the other colours that weren't touched) are only giving 2 volts of power. Meaning there's probably a disruption somewhere. But I'm trying to figure out why it affected so many things, and if I blew a circuit!?

You probably have a screwed amp, but from what you described, the deck should be fine. Check all your fuses, under hood and in cabin. The fact that there was a "pop" and your dome light went out, tells me its a fuse.
Check the fuse on your amp, maybe you got lucky and only popped that one too. But I wouldn't hold my breath. +1 on the don't ask that friend to help again.... Unless its just to hold the light where you need it next time!

damn, how did he manage to connect the power wire to the negative terminal?? Is there a fuse that runs between the battery and the amp im pretty sure there is so make sure to check that one also.

check where the radio and dome light are grounded

Look if your ignition key illumination works . If not ,check ROOM fuse. All these modules are powered by it. Also check if ashtray is lit when ignition key is in TNS position.
Sounds as lost ground, but controls cluster has a different ground point from radio and dimmer ,though in the same harness. Your friend should be a professional to mess both grounds.

oh yeah, my gauges do the same thing as yours too (pinned for a sec, then return to zero). and my trip calculator thingy (the thing above the radio) doesnt even display/illuminate.
the tripmeter that i was talking about is the one in conjunction with the odometer... you should check to seek if that's shot on yours!

Yup, turns out the fuse didn't appear to be burnt out but it was the fuse. The dome light fuse, replace it! It may not look burnt, but the moment the pro replaced the fuse everything worked again. I can give you guys his number, he re-wired the whole stock deck for me and everything AND CHEAPPPP!!!!

no shit man... it was the fuse in my case too. it looked fine, but when i replaced it, everything came back to normal. that was the first thing i checked, then every wiring harness... i was ready to get rid of the car! thanks for spreading the word... i wonder if we can put this in the "known problems" section.

Up to the mods if they'd like!

Basic fact!

THE DOME LIGHT FUSE IN THE ENGINE BAY FUSE BOX CONTROLS DOME LIGHTS, MAP LIGHTS, KEYLESS, RADIO/DECK, AND SPEEDOMETER, RPM, GAS, HEAT GAUGES TOO.
