mine just came in the mail...I'll be getting a new "mustache" w/o the 2 holes from Joe/MOT...maybe when you get back, we can swap them out.

did you find something similar/better in HK?

nothing in HK. 95% of the carshop mods are air freshners/hello kitties/alarms/ipod holder etc. There was a serious shop I went to.. but they were too serious R35 GTR, NSX etc.

I'm going to get some bumper work done soon when I'm back and deciding if I should get the plate. I want to mount the plate more towards the edge of the car tho =/ it looks very centered stilll.

Are there different ways of mounting the plate?? In this pic, the plate doesn't look as centered http://www.streetunit.com/CPE_Tow_Plate_Mazdaspeed_3_and_Mazda_3_5_Door_p/mm3shthlp.htm

I don't think that's a CP-e mount...looks to be to close to centre...the CP-e one I believe has a hole to connect to the bolt, so it's not "adjustable", and the CP-e one is more to the side...I'll see if I can take a pic tonight for ya...i just got it in the mail.

Best trick of the trade.....industrial velcro :) that way it looks better without the rusty screws

Yeah the rho-plate is adjustable, whereas the cp-e one isn't.

I was just looking at the design for these tow-plate mounts and they can be pretty easily made. I'm going to go to my dad's machine shop and put one together and see what I can come up with and what the cost is going to be like. ...i'll post somepics once the rough piece is out.

Definitely let us know how it turns out, I'd be interested in one if you could fab one up for a decent price.

Here is a really cheap alternative to those who want a towplate but don't want to spend the money and like fabrication.:scool:

Used the stock towhook found in the trunk. Cut the hook off as close as I could to the welds of the hook. I recommend a sawzaw and a vise if you have access to one. Grinded off to smooth the end. Drilled the end about an inch down. Tapped the end. ( I used a 5/16-18 thread tap) I also recommend buying a bolt (I originally used a regular bolt but in the end opted for an Allen head stainless bolt).

As for the aluminum bar you can use whatever size you want (Mine is 2 inches wide IIRC). It just needs to be strong enough (thickness) so it won't flex in the wind, etc. I cut mine 10 inches long, and put the bend at 1 1/2 inches. I used the vise to make the bend but a strong table will work too. After this you just have to line up your license plate on the aluminum bar, and drill the holes to mount ( you also will have to get bolts/nuts/lock washers; size is your choice here too). You also have to drill the hole to mount the bar to the tow hook.

Once you have this done, you just have to assemble. Screw the tow mount in the bumper. Use the bolt to tighten. Take out the bolt, and grab the alum. bar. Line it up to your liking, and tighten the bolt as much as possible where you can't move the bar up or down. Then just bolt in the license plate.

Pm CTA Patrique, i believe he can get cp-e items, Streetunit.com has them. And sometimes members do a quick group buy from Cp-e to reduce custom fees.
