What do you do with your used oil?
Recently changed my gear oil so I have about 3-4 quarts to dispose of.
A long time ago (when I used to change my own oil on previous beaters) I would just give it to a mechanic at CanadianTire and they would just take it.
Not sure whether I can still do that and was just wondering what options I have (preferably free).
Will the city recycling centre take them? Is there a disposal fee?

I bring it to the recycling centre in Mississauga(free). I'm not sure if Metro has those. I know home depot collects old paint.
note: maybe we should have a where to recycle thread.. so members can do the part around the city.

Leave it in front an engine bay at CT.
They have no choice but to dispose of it properly, once they find it.

In Peel you can take it to the waste transfer stations.

Most if not all Canadian Tires will take it. They use approved methods of disposing (used to work at Canadian Tire auto dept)
Or, as an example, there's a tire shop here in Kingston that runs on this ancient oil furnace. As the guy told my dad, if it burns, we'll take it. They use old oil to heat the shop.

I think Markham's recycling centre is just behind/north of Jimmy's.

Ditto on the Canadian Tire in front of the service bay doors.

More options, if you like.

I add it to my coffee in the morning for that little extra pick-me-up. I only use full synthetic though because it gives much better protection to my internals than the crappy OEM semi-syn. :)
