Arrrrrrrrrrrrgh!
I just got dinged for $15 lousy bucks for parking in a street spot which is totally legit AND right outside my house...but I was there for longer than 3 hours.....Which is an infraction that apparently doesn't need to be posted...I could care less about the $15 but WTF? That's so lame. I couldn't park in my driveway b/c my neighbor has scaffolding up...
Okay...mini-rant over.
BTW I think toronto parking and canada post have a thing going because if you want to avoid the internet surcharge and the telephone surcharge...you have to mail it in...Who sends letters these days?? I figured you out Canada post!

What if you ran to the store then parked in the same spot again? How would they know?
Stupid parking tickets!

I think they normally chalk your tire. Probably more hi tech these days with those cars with all the cameras on the roof.

Someone should go along marking all different chalk patterns on the tires just to mess with them.

Toronto is nothing more than just a cash grab for everything. Take the stories that ran yesterday about needing a permit to pave your driveway. Come on man, that's just a rip.

Dude, I know it sucks getting a ticket especially right in front of your house but you should familiarize yourself with the Ontario's Highway Traffic Act.

How long can I park on the street if there are no signs posted?
In the City of Toronto, a three-hour limit exists on public roads where no other parking regulations are posted. Signs advising visitors to the city of this regulation are posted at the access points to the city and when exiting from a Provincial highway.

I am familiar, how do you think I knew the 3 hour law? It just sucks when I leave my car on the street for my neighbors convenience and I get nabbed. I should give the ticket to the contractor next door.
Oh well, it's just another $15 to go into the pockets of the cities over paid officials.

Just go outside, pull your car forward 1 foot, then park it again.
They can't tell whether or not you left your spot and went to the store, etc.

my response to that is, where are those signs? I have never seen a sign like that in my life. I know that they are usually posted when coming off of a highway when coming into the city, but how many people never leave the city and just drive around inside? When are people like that ever going to see it? Parking tickets (alone) do not serve a legitimit derrent to illegal parking, they have to be reinforced with a tow. Now I believe 90% of what "they" consider to be infractions are them just trying to find ways of screwing hardworking people out of money. I also believe this is one of Millers weapon's in his campaign against the car. If it harder to park then maybe less people will drive. The only legitimate times I believe that cars should be ticketed and towed are:
when they are parked in rush hour lanes/times
handicap parking spaces
firehydrants
double parked, and
illegal private property parking/illegal spot (to far from curb, too close to corner etc)
tickets were originally issued because of stuff like that, but when they realized that they were actually generating revenue they started going overkill and making all the parking rules so complicated you almost need a phd in statistical analysis to figure them out.
Evidence to this fact is that they got rid of the voluntary fine amount for most tickets. more evidence they make it as hard as possible for you to submit you ticket in for your constitutionally guaranteed right to defend yourself against an accusation/infraction that you were alleged to have commited you can't phone it in, you can't mail it in, you can't email or fax it in. But of course you can pay your ticket over the phone, or internet or in person. The last and most damning evidence that the city of Toronto see's parking tickets as a revenue stream is that they are planning to build new courthouses just for parking tickets, so that they don't loose precious money because the judge throws the charges out because you were not given the opportunity to present your arguments and defend yourself in a timely manner. I'm sorry but I've also been stung recently by the green hornets because one of the stupid parking rules and a faulty meter. they should change the slogan on their cars to "to pester and annoy"!

If you've never seen the sign in your life then you must not be paying attention enough.
Even if you do not drive in an area where the sign is posted, it is a bylaw and as a licensed driver should be aware of it.
No doubt getting the ticket sucks (especially in front of your own house) but not knowing or not seeing the sign is not a valid excuse or a reason to blame everything as a cash grab, IMO.

if you go to pay the ticket online or by telephone they charge you a processing fee!
it should be like California.. paint the curbs where we can park.

So in the winter you won't be able to park anywhere because you won't be able to see the curb under the snow banks. :)
Plus, the issue here isn't that it was a no parking zone but rather the length of time he was parked.

I'm beginning to think xerox is a parking enforcement officer...j/k
I'm not casting blame or really complaining that much. Laws are laws, and I knew about the three hour limit. All I'm saying is that I've lived on this street, which is a quiet residential street with bike lanes and painted parking lines, for 5 years and never gotten a ticket for parking for over 3 hours.
Me and this other guy have a quiet battle going for this spot because it's close to both our houses...I'm thinking he called TPA b/c he was tired of me getting the spot. The $15 ticket just seems so random.

I would stick your ticket on his car and if he's dumb he'll end up paying the fine, but this probably would never work, but would be nice if it did.

yup.. they make it v. difficult to understand the signs and twice as hard to schedule an appointment to fight it. I always see yellow tickets on the cars parked outside my place and they ticket every half hour. Metered parking is already expensive to begin with too.
Miller = if you own a car, you can afford a ticket when you park in Toronto.
I don't bother parking on city streets anymore. I just put it in the lot.
Xerox - I completely forgot about the snow bit... oddly I don't recall ticketing as much in the winter.
