Recently I noticed by mistake that when my car rev's to 4/4.5(I never let it go that high, usually shift 1st from 3000) in first gear and you let your foot off the accelerator it makes a weird grinding type noise (hard to describe but even my passengers were wondering what it was)when it decelerates. I have never heard this before in any other car and first time hearing it in the mazda. I tried this a couple times and the noise is always there in just first gear.

Any suggestions what it might be?

I had the same noise you were talking about - when I changed my oil filter the noise went away - also the filter was very dirty.

I dont know if this is causing your problem but a filter change could not hurt - .....

I dont know if that is the case since oil filter was recently changed during an oil change :s, I will take a look though. It sounds like the noise is coming right from under me

Hey Greg,

Is there a chance that you live on or have driven through a lot of gravel recently, or dirt?

You may have dirt/gravel stuck in the rear engine/tranny mount, which is located apx. near the driver right foot under the car.
