Hey all, anyone else experience wind noise when driving 70kms+?

Sounds like a faint tea kettle boiling water, as I accelerate it gets louder, especially at highway speed...quite annoying. (turns music louder)

Also, a few times when backing up my drive way I heard a slight bang noise, nothing in trunk, wasnt going fast enough to jolt the spare/tools around.

And this past week, im starting to feel the engine slightly stuttering through the foot pedal, hard to explain, its not hesitating but it wasnt as smooth when i first had the car, i can feel the engine thudding a bit.

Anyone else experiencing these issues?

I'm almost at 3000kms now.

Nope. No problems so far. Are you driving an AUTO? Mine is the 6 speed. If you are getting a bang when putting it in reverse I would get the transmission looked at immediately!! Maybe it's low on fluid from the factory?

I remember once when I started hearing whistling noises. I couldn't figure it out for the life of me, but soon afterwards, I checked my windows to see if they were all closed fully..one of my windows weren't, so after that, never heard the whistling again.

So..check your windows? Maybe they're not all closed?

I checked them all individually while my wife held down the buttons.

Still whistling.

While driving try putting outward pressure on the windows to help seal them. You should be able to at least find where the whistle is coming from and isolate it. Maybe one of the seals isn't seating properly. Had that problem with my Subaru. Then you can let the dealer have a look and see what they can do about it.

I believe Subaru's don't have a frame around their windows ... right? If so, what you just told him would definitely help. But the Mazda3 does have a frame around the windows, atleast the generation I have does (2007).

Try this for each door next time you're standing by your car, its along the same lines as what BeEvil was getting at.

1) Take a $5, $10, $20 bill, fold it in half so you're doubling up on the thickness of the paper, but keeping the length the same.
2) Roll down your windows so you can get your hand inside the car while the door is closed.
3) Open the door and put the bill in between the top of the door and the car's frame and close the door (basically what you're doing is trapping the bill\paper between the door's rubber seal and the car's rubber seal.
4) Use one hand to grab the inside edge of the bill\paper through the open window, and grab the outside edge with the other hand, now try sliding the bill\paper forward or backwards along the door's frame, if there's poor contact between the 2 rubber seals, the force required to move the paper through that spot would be much less compared to the rest.
5) If you find the paper is sliding too easily through the whole section, then fold it in half again and make the bill\paper thicker, then try again.
6) Once you find the zone where it's easier to slide the bill\paper, you've most likely found where the air is leaking through and making the whistling sound. Now you just have to figure out what you can do to the door's rubber seal at that spot ... basically you want to get that spot of the rubber to push outward a tad more so both rubber seals do what they're suppose to. But we can get to that once you've done the steps listed above.

I know I know, its low-tech ... but hey, its free and easy to do. :)

Oops, that was suppose to be $5, $10 OR $20 bill, whatever is handy and readily available at that time.

Why don't I still have access to edit my posts? :whoa

I get loud wind noise and road noise on the highway in my '07 GT. Not designed for quietness in mind.

I have this same issue on my 2010 Mazda 3 GX, no external mods, I hear it with winter or summer tires.
I've noticed it starts around 100 Km/hr and gets quite loud around 120-140km/hr.
It's a persistent whistle, kind of like if you were blowing over a very tiny hole.
With louder music, you can't really hear it, but despite my love for tunes, i can't rightly rely on this during nighttime drives or on hungover days lol.

I've noticed that when there's a strong wind from the driver's side, sometimes it causes more/less noise based on the angle of the wind. Likely another clue that this is a rubber seal issue.

I think that since it's only occurring when above 100km/hr, something tells me it's a seal issue as one of the members above mentions, but i was wondering if anyone who's got a bug deflector or any other body mods/bras on the front of the car have also experienced it.
