Hey Guys/Gals,
I need your input. I have to replace the hood on my '05 Hatch.
Now the question is: should I go OEM replacement hood or a Carbon Fiber Hood???
Mods: a poll would help out. Thanks.

OEM if this is giong to be your only hood.
If you don't mind driving in the winter with a CF hood, then power to you.
My friend has been driving all year long with a CF hood on his Suburu, and that thing is just killed with nicks and scratches.

As much as I like the CF hood...nicks and scratches are going to make you cry afterwards.

I like the CF but I've noticed a similar complaint that depending on the quality, after a while it looses its shine and gets dull/hazy.

It would be my only hood, and I am concerned about winter driving.

Where are you getting this hood, and if you don't mind me asking, what price range would you be purchasing this at? I'll need to replace or repaint mine soon as well :S

I like the look. The only thing is the eyelids would have to go. Wouldn't matter it they were the color of the car or CF, they just wouldn't go with the lines of the car.

i like the CF
but from a practical standpoint will it last and is it as durable as the OEM?
on a side not i'm not sure if CF would look good on your color.. i dunno personal choice...

CF will look good on your car and compliment it with your exterior modifications however if its plain then just go OEM instead. However thats your decisions, but if you do get CF one thing about it CF will not dent when hail hits it lol.

+1
CF looks good on any dark colour and some light colours. It will look good but upkeep will be a pain. It will need a lot of care (waxing, etc) and you will need to be careful not to scratch it. CF hate rocks so if you drive on the highway a lot you way want to got OEM.
CF is a summer only accessory, or at least there should be a law stating that lol. If you plan on driving your car in the winter, go OEM.

Why would people want to go for the carbon fibre hood is beyond me....Is this thing only for the looks or for performance due to the light weight?

If you really want the look, why not maybe go for vinyl, i'm sure you can get it in a carbon fibre look.. but again the stone chips will kill it

it's weight reduction in the front of the car. depending on the car, for instance on the MS3, the stock hood can weight a tonne! and given that there's usually already quite a bit of weight in the front due to the engine sitting there a light hood can help quite a bit.
