Hey guys, I just got hids installed (purchased from myk and installed by oakvillemazda), I have a question about the auto lights feature.

I remember reading somewhere (can't find it now) that you should not use the auto lights as they could short the hids when you start the engine because of the spikes of electricity that occur at that time.

Any truth to this... I'm lazy and I like leaving my lights in auto :p

Is your car an auto? or 5speed..

Reason I ask, I am pretty sure the lights don't come on until you put down the e brake on a manual.

If you leave them on Auto they may not fire every time. Most people leave them off and turn them on after they start the car.

Do a search though, this has been covered many times...

+1 to cwp_sedan. Just elaborate on his point more, it's because the startup voltage to get the igniters to fire is more then what the car can provide right after startup. Need to let the battery charge up alittle (~10sec)

This doesn't matter for the question you were asking.

Sorry Jeff. :)

Yah, did some more thorough research and I see that theife is shortened by leaving it on auto due to the extra times that the balasts are firing...

Will just leave them off and turn on manually...

"auto" works fine for OEM HIDs since they're designed that way :D
DRLs on the 04-06 will screw things up though
