View Full Version : Leaking Motor/Engine Mount... Again?!

Hello, I have a 2004 GT with 102K. Noticed today a black spot on the pavement on the front passenger side (behind fog lamp area). Upon opening the hood I saw a fresh stain from the engine/motor mount connection/bolt to one of the orange coloured (my vehicle colour) pillars beside the belts.
My guess is a leak with the mount. If it's true, it's deja vu as I had this exact part replaced almost three years ago to the day!! It was under warranty them, but my guess is that's not the case now.
I'm trying to recall if the mounts are oil-filled (it's black oil that's coming out) and why is that the case. Also, if the oil were to eventually run out there is that a problem?
Also does anyone know how much a replacement mount would be? I'm thinking of taking it to a local mechanic people at work deal with instead of the dealer.
Thanks!

The passenger mount is fluid filled to dampen vibrations. if all the oil leaks out, it isn't catastrophic, but the mount will eventually have to be replaced.
the rubber used for the mount (which contains the oil) is prone to drying out from the heat of the engine (if you were to touch the mount after driving for a long time, you may feel the burn :whoa). when it dries out, it cracks causing the oil to leak out.
a replacement passenger mount is around $90. take it to jimmy at Street Performance...he's done so many he'll have it swapped in 10 minutes!

I was looking at this mount (http://www.hardrace.com/products.asp?strClass1=6&strClass2=18) made by HardRace. It looks well built, with reinforced mount frame, but has anybody installed and tested this ?

The other day when I went inside my garage, i noticed black liquid drops on the right side behind the fog light. I check all around , but after someone posting the same problem. I went back to check and the mount has some sort of liquid running along the pillar inside the engine, I only have 32000 km on my 2004 mazda 3 gt. Where would be a good place to buy this mount(I live in Winnipeg) and is it easy to replace. Thanks

I called Canadian tire for the mount, They said it was special order and it would be 250 bucks. Is there anywhere else to buy this mount, I'm sure Mazda will be more.

The new OEM engine mounts are NOT liquid filled, I replaced mine last year.
I guess Mazda recognized the problem and did away with the black nastiness.
I bought mine at carling mazda for $90, last year. It took me 30min to replace it by myself. The biggest pain was taking out the coolant jug.
