Hi all,
I have had this issue after my dealer installed my OEM Turn signals.
Metal noise
When in Drive and when I mildly accelerate to 40-50KM/H I receive a metal noise on the front passenger side
This is more noticeable in Tiptronic
On highway speeds, it is even far more noticeable
It is intermittent and the noise does not happen when the car is on idle
I previously bought it to MOT back in Jan 09 and had Joe hear the noise which he infact heard it and Vincent helped me out during the time to diagnose it but the Mechanics needed more time to diagnose the issue. Being how busy I was with work, I did not have time to bring it to Vincent to diagnose.
I brought this issue into Agincourt Mazda back in Mid spring before my 1 year service and their head mechanic (with lots of experience) suggested I fill in Surpreme Gas since I'm filling my car with water and not 'real' gas. I found that to be quite a waste of money and Joe agreed with me that was not the route to go as I went to MOT right after. They also suggested me to put more clicks on the car to see as it was still new.
I brought it back a few weeks ago to Agincourt Mazda and one of the service reps blamed it on the brakes and the condition of the weather as well as when I took him for a drive, the service rep could not hear it.
Being the busy body I am, I had time to bring it into MOT recently and Vincent suggested me to leave it in for a day (which I have still time) after replicating the issue so they can diagnose it. I feed the 3 full synthetic oil and do my maintenance on time so I don't know what else it could be
I suspect it to be a loose screw as it does not sound like a Motor noise and it sounds like if you were to cling your keys. Any thoughts/opinions on what it could be? I understand noise can be very difficult to diagnose but it has been bothering me recently and since my car is still under warranty, I would prefer to have this fixed once and for all. I thank you for those who read it thus far :)
I did not voice this concern yet but wanted to see what you all think about it as it is quite annoying for me sometimes as well and the only way I could describe it was that it sounds like a woodpecker pecking on wood:
Woodpecker Noise
This noise happens and is heard somewhere in the middle perhaps the engine area
This only happens after I drive for a long period of time and I hear this noise specifically when I am braking on a light and sometimes when the car is in park.
I read previous threads and perhaps it is the Fuel Injectors
Any thoughts/opinions are greatly appreciated
Thanks!

If you can PM info on your vehicle, I can search for any bulletins to assist with diagnosis.

I don't know if ANY bulletins are aware of if this happens to all Mazdas. Just got a call from MOT (Ali was helping me as Vincent seems to be on vacation) saying there is nothing wrong with my car and it is normal...:bang Looks like I need to bring it next week to show them EXACTLY where the noise is coming from. I am still at home and awaiting for his call...left it in for a day and they found nothing...least they did not tell me to fill my tank with surpreme.

I might be having the same issue as you are. I get a metal vibrating sound on the passenger side as well in the same circumstances as you are however it only happens when the air conditioning is on. I also get a slight hesitation that I can feel in the pedals when it happens. Ajax Mazda has replaced the ac compressor but the sound is still there? Have you had any other word on your car? My dealer is at a loss now and I'm not all that happy about it.
Thanks
Mario

Hey Mario,
I got the issue diagnosed by Karen at Agincourt and FINALLY after the 2nd attempt of MOT not being able to hear the noise and 4-5 roadtests, a Tech at Agincourt was able to hear the issue (not their Tech Lead) and they found out that my fuel pump ( not sure if someone can educate me on that) had to be replaced as there was a recall for the 08's on the fuel pumps. Any other 08's have the same issue? Thoughts / opinions?

Do I need to take my car to a garage to fix my passenger side engine mount? Or is it something my mechanic can do from home as long as I buy the part?
Thanks anyone for your help!!!!

Anyone with 2007 experience this? I have a similar metal noise when I hit the gas.

Sad as it may seem, I had it diagnosed and they said it was "normal" as it had something to do with the pressure valve which can't be tinkered with? Not sure. I tried MOT but Vincent refused to take the car for a test drive as the neighborhood were complaining about loud noise and mechanic's getting tickets and advised me to call Mazda Canada. I called Mazda Canada who told me to try a different dealer and not to worry about differnet dealers making warranty claims as it is noted in my account.

That sucks...
I dont remember what the TSB was called but I think there was one for 2006. Something about a shift bracket of sorts that was loose near one of the exhaust pipes under the body and was causing the noise. I have no warranty left on my car so unfortunately I cant make use of the TSB but you might be able to have them take a look at it.

I've had the same dealer i usually go to check it out. Not sure what I should do or give MOT another crack. QEW is too far for me to diagnose for this issue. Would Engine mounts cause this issue?

NOPE! I don't know who to turn to though I might take a stab at MOT as Mazda canada told me to go to another dealer.

just make sure you leave the car with whichever dealer and get a rent/loan car... your busyness and putting this off will only cause you to not ever fix this... warranty periods are finite as you already may know!

For the past 2 months, I'm experiencing this on my 2004 (165,000km). The metal noise sounds like something is loose and when I initially step on the accelerator pedal, it makes a clunk noise. The other noise I get is over any bump or imperfections on the road, it makes a high pitched SQUEAK which sounds like its metal on metal. I've noticed the sounds are more obvious when it is wet outside (snow, rain, etc).
Jimmy from StreetPerformance has said my passenger side mount needs to be replaced but there is no indication this will fix all the noises.
Sometimes there is so much noise, it feels like my car is about to fall apart!

Same problem i had, my passenger side Engine mount broke. It's two chunks of metal that are being held together by this big bushing, if the bushing breaks, the metal pieces are Resting on each other and hitting each other. Mine is an 2004 155,000 Km
Jimmy confirmed mine was bad, and i replaced it myself and after putting in the new mount i could easily see how much higher my engine was now sitting
The experience i had was a lot more noise from my engine, i could feel my car vibrate even more (because the engine was shaking around) esp if i hit a bump on the passenger side and not the driver side.
But definitely get it fixed, Jimmy Gave me a good price much better then i expected

wow what a revival thread. So far, I have not had the time to bring it in to get it fixed and I have lost confidence in the dealer I always bring it to warranty work that is. Thinking about giving QEW a try but debating if I should drive the XX KMs for them to look into the matter.

Take it To Jimmy, and have him take a look at it, if he can point it out and give you a good price to fix it i'd say go for it. If it's expensive and you are worried about the warranty work, take it back to the dealer and told them another mechanic told you it was this particular problem and to please check it more closely

I made an appointment to see Jimmy this Friday. Buying a new OEM passenger mount from Joe at MoT.
Hopefully this will resolve all or some of the horrible noises. Thanks for the input.

I found changing the radio station or cd to something like pop or classical got rid of the metal noise in my car :chuckle
