I haven't been online in a while, since I'm working my a$$ off for a vacation. I'm going down south and need people’s tips/experiences on their previous vacations. I've gone to Europe and all over the states but not to any of the islands . I’m considering doing a package deal kinda set on the DR or Jamaica or Mexico (I know Swine flu) and have no interest in a cruise (motion sickness).
I've done lots of research on areas and which islands and hotels to avoid, as well as great places to get deals (full trip is only going to cost me $500-900) . I am leaving (yes in hurricane season) in September this year. If anyone has a previous travel experience or would recommend a place to visit please feel free to drop a line. I've read many reviews and hey TM3 is like family so why not ask here too :bana..
Thanks a lot,
- Greg

Make sure you get your Hepatitis A & B shots (Twinrix). Also take your Dukarol to fight against travellers diarrhea and DO NOT DRINK THE WATER! You might want to do some excursions (scuba diving, horseback riding, etc.) so make sure you bring lots of extra cash. Tip the room cleaners and they'll fold your towels and sheets into lots of pretty animals. Last but not least, have fun!

Thanks :) ... ya for sure shots and Dukarol... and I've heard the water = most of your vacation spent in the washroom ..
Have you travelled down there? Is so where and would you recommend?
another question..... tippin is key for good results from roomservice etc.... how much is fair? (in other words what could I get away with ...... while avoiding the fact I'm cheap hahah)

as for the whole water thing ask the resort where they get their water... (think ice cubes, slushie drinks, what they're washing the food in). generally most resorts will have filtered water and is safe to drink. I had no problems in the dominican with the water, although they provided bottled water in the rooms.
Puerto Plata was incredible, although the beaches were not that nice.
Cuba has the best beaches ever!! Varadeo FTW.

I stayed in Punta Cana, DR. One of the most beautiful beaches i've ever been too. Better than the one in Holguin, Cuba IMO. A key tip for great room service is $2US a day left on the pillow. Trust me, im a cheap ass and i went through just fine hahaha

Crystalline,
You need to go to Punta Cana in the Dominican for really nice beaches. Varadero in Cuba is awesome too and I love Cuba in general, but Punta Cana makes Puerto Plata look like a ghetto... :chuckle

Playa Del Carmen, Mexico is the nicest place I have been to date. Great beaches, blue clear water for miles and miles. Nice people and very safe with lots of things to do!

I've heard the Riviera Maya (http://www.rivieramaya.com/) is a great place to go. Clean, good security, lots of stuff to do, and beautiful beaches. It's just outside Cancun so it's a 30 min bus ride or so. Or you can fly in directly for lots of $$$...
That sounds great I'm jealousssssss, you're gonna have so much funnn!!!

prob not the best place to ask this but i'm reluctant to start new thread
i was wondering
there are fuel additives that my friend has been using in his truck
supposed to raise efficiency of fuel by like 20-25%
is this recommended for long distance drivings?

Been to Europe and my old ex is from the UK lol , and let's try to stay on topic with travel kids :) , what about punta cana vs puerto plata....... punta cana has nicer beachs but puerto plata is hella cheap...... should I just suck it up and pay the extra for the experience? (Should of done that with my mazda and got a speed3 lol)

I agree on the Riviera Maya, I went there last year (stayed at the Barcelo Colonial) and it was amazing. Beach was a little bit rocky in some areas but once you found the good spots, nothing but white sand and clear water. Hotel was 5 stars and the service, restaurants, etc definitely reflected this 5 star rating.
I also enjoyed Varadero, Cuba. Much cheaper than Riviera Maya and the beach is absolutely stunning. You can see the bottom of the ocean even when you are in 8 feet of water. BUT...the food...yikes. Cuba does not have access to the same food as Mexico does so the food does not even compare!!
Good luck and enjoy your vacation whatever you choose.
