If you've installed a Mazda remote start module, or had the dealer do this for you, can you provide me some details?
1- What dealer sold or installed this?
2 - How much did it cost?
3 - Can you provide some part numbers?
4 - How about some pictures? Is there a visible antenna? How about the keyfob?
Thanks,
Roger
When you bought your car they should have giving you a disc and in that disc should have part numbers, intall time and price...and if i am not mistaking you need to have an automatic..and it should be plug and play..

Nope. I did get that CD at the auto-show. Same as the Mazda.ca website. No remote starter details.

the 2010's are going to be interesting to do the bypass module because the keyless push button start. Not to sure of how to make this happen yet

I am guessing that they are probably all ready to go for keyless start... much like adding cruise to the earlier models just require the switches because the PJB is already programmed for it. Mazda will probably offer a plug in module at some point....

I have remote start installed by the dealer. It is CODEALARM with a separate keyfob. Not really convenient but it is OK

So I take it that it's an aftermarket and not a genuine Mazda?

No no what i mean is i have the push button start and dont need a key because it transmits signals wirelessly and in order for the key bypass to work it has to store the starting codes on the module. You do need 2 keys to program the module and it requires turning on the ignition so it can store the codes in the module. So how will you make sure that it gets codes from both keys and not just one? It basically is the same concept instead of turning the key you push a buton but in the turn key style there is a transmitter for the chip in the key that the module must be hooked up to. The 2010 with the push button start will have an antenna for the key and not a transmitter and receiver wire will it? sorry for rambling on but thats whats leaving me a little clueless lol

I have read rumours that the systems are not a factory direct plug in and will be outsourced for installation. But those are rumours we shall see what is to come

If i am not mistaken for 04-09 they have one whichis direct plug and play but only for automatics and as stated here for the 2010's for both. I did a little digging and from the rumours i read they will not be direct mazda parts from now on :(. I did get a price quote for my car and it is a pretty hechtic one to say the least

I have the install manual for the regular one-way starter. It's a kludge IMO. You have to tap a bunch of wire with Insulation Displacement Connectors IDCs. Not very integrated. If I wanted that, I'd go after-market. Also, why would I want a one button FOB? I want a FOB that has lock, unlock, panic, trunk and remote start. Then I'd use a regular key, and ditch the jack-knife for the winter.
Hopefully the two-way is a different story.
Part numbers and pictures please!

Also another concern of mine with the aftermarket for those with the keyless entry meaning we have the fob rather then a key would the aftermarket be tied in to that or would you have to disarm both?

I called my local dealer and you are right.
The automatic is a direct plug in and for the manual their a company that makes it for them..i forget who she said...i guess no remote start for me:bang

So what's the word on the Mazda remote starter? Has anyone had one installed? What's with the two-way unit, is it really OEM?

The automatic should be a direct plug in for auto..at least for the 04 to 09..not sure about the 2010...

Part number?
The only one I could find is the 0000-8F-L46. It isn't at all a direct plug in. You have to tap many wires in many harnesses with insulation displacement connectors. Then it only has the one button on the remote.

Maybe I don't know what "direct plug in" is. The last I talked to my dealer, they had no pricing on the remote starter, it didn't seem like I could buy one if I wanted. I did find some US sites that list the part number and sell for around $300. I asked for the install .pdf file. Tap the the tach wire here, the hood pin here, the gear lever here, the brake switch here, etc, etc. Not at all plug and play. From what I can tell, it's the same unit as the older models, the Mazda6 etc. They may change the harness slightly, but mostly it's a different part number due to different instructions provided.
Did you actually install one in a 2004-2009 personally?
Pereira11
09-22-2009, 05:08 PM
Its not a part from Mazda, its aftermarket supported by Mazda. it provides new remotes so you dont require multiple fobs.
unfortunately i dont have any part numbers as we have them installed and dont actually order them directly from Mazda.
they work on manual trans

I just had a factory remote starter installed today. It is a one button remote. So far I'm not liking it very much. To start the engine you have to click the button twice, but not to fast or it won't pick up the 2 clicks. The 2nd thing I HATE is once the car has started using the remote starter and you open ANY door or the trunk, the car's engine will stall. At first you would think there's a problem with the starter, but after reading the user manual, this is indeed one of the "Security/Safety features" for the starter. If you ask me this is the STUPIDEST feature and I'm hoping there's a way to disable it. I've had many after market starters in the past and not one has operated this way!! If I start the car with the remote start why in gods name would I want to have to start it again when I get in the car!!:flaming

yeah I agree, it is pretty lame to have the car stall once a door is opened. When I installed them it was usually the brake pedal. If the brakes were depressed to get the car in gear (auto tranny) and the key wasn't in the run position, it would stall. Another one was the RPMs, if the car reached a certain RPM without the key in the run position is would stall. Usually the brake pedal though, easier and more safe! The door deal is dumb, I agree!!!

Actually I have the 5 speed Automatic. This is one of the safety features listed in the manual that will disengage the engine. The others I can understand and were the same with past car starters ie: Brake pedel, hood up, rpms, etc. This door or trunk opening makes no sense at all to me for a safety feature. I'm hating this car starter the more I use it and think about it. I probably won't use it as much as I normally would now. I'll be calling the dealership on Monday.

Sorry about your experience Pringles. I have the install manual .pdf, and if you'd have asked me for it, you would have had much more detail before buying it. How much was it installed BTW?
I think I'll go aftermarket. That way I can carry a regular key and one 5 button remote.

We didn't have to pay for the car starter, we negotiated it in when we purchased the car back in May. I'm sure they just worked the numbers to make it look like we were getting it thrown in though. The car starter just came in this week and I had it installed on yesterday. I do happen to know that it cost $570 installed taxes in.
