Oakville Mazda service experience

I took my car to Oakville Mazda for 4 month / 8000 km oil change today. The work was done promptly.

Nothing negative except its tire rotation fee is $24, about $4 more than what other dealers charge. I told Robin at Service that other dealers charge $19.99 and asked whether I could get it done at that price. She said no. $4 is no big deal but it is 20% more than the competotors' price.

I probably will go to Direct Mazda for the next oil change because it is closer to my work place and I could use its suttle service.

Tires should be rotated every 5000 KM to maximize tire life.

Uh huh... Every 8K is just fine considering you're in for service then anyway.

8k is fine for tire rotation. I even leave them for 16k unless I see any irregular wear.

I'd have told those dudes "My tires "rotate" every time I drive the freakin' car!"

But seriously, I'd opt out of the tire rotation. Here's why:

Scenario 1: You swap for summer for winter, winter for summer 2x per year

Scenario 2: You drive 15,000 kms/yr rotate 3x @ $24 = $72 year. If your fronts wear out quicker, so what? Just buy 2 tires twice as often and save$$$ on not paying for rotations. Tires would be free relatively.

Tire rotation has traditionally followed the manufacturer's maintenance schedule mainly because it is a pain to do in between oil change services. (of course I'm referring to a pain for the customer)
It has usually been every 10,000-12,000 km
It is more expensive to just replace both front tires, esp. The model tires that come on the M3.
I would recommend having this done at your usual 8,000km interval. If the tires are all even, this will not be done for you anyways and you will not be charged. Why take a chance with your tire warranty with the tire manufacturer?
