Got a viper alarm system installed the week of July 13. The Viper remote, as shown below, takes one AAA battery. Since the install, the original alkaline battery has already drained and now the rechargeable eneloop battery I replaced it with has drained as well. So two batteries over the span of one month, is this normal?

Where did you have it installed at?
You should go back and ask them

2 batteries in one month? No, its not normal, but mine eats through 1 FRESH AAA battery every 4~6weeks.
You sure the 2 batteries were fresh\full charged when you went through them?
Another reason to upgrade to the 5901, when it runs low you plug in the mini-usb and recharge! :)
Try using better batteries like Duracell Ultras or the Energizer Lith...

Audio Heaven, sent Jeff a message before I posted and was waiting to hear back. I figured I would ask here to see what others have experienced.
The first battery was a no-name one that came with the system, so I wasn't surprised it didn't last long. The 2nd battery was a fully and freshly charged Sanyo Eneloop battery, which are supposed to be high quality rechargeable batteries. I just changed it for another fresh Eneloop yesterday afternoon, and it's already down to 2 (out of 4) bars on the battery charge. :bang

Good suggestion Peter, that was next on my list of things to try. Hopefully I have better results.

I was going to post the exact same comment! My bro and I have the same compustar pro AS; he was burning through rechargeables like mad, but my duracells last months. My wife has the same setup, but starter only, on her car and duracells last her forever as well.

i have that same remote. with cheap batteries they go fast. i put a energizer lithium, the blue and silver one and i use it every day and its been in there for over a month now and still full power.
i would try one of the better more expensive batteries and see how that goes.

i've had mine for about a month now... and im still not even finished using the battery that came with it. it could possibly be what settings you have on your remote. you could set a combination of vibrate and beep or just beep or just vibrate or nothing at all. also the back light, you can adjust that to save battery.
problem with rechargeable battery's that they are only 1.2 volt
normal battery is 1.5 volt

I think its the type of batt hes using. mine is on vibrate and beep, and the backlight stays on for 5 or 10 secs after i press a button so the power saving is not the issue

Update: Bought a set of Energizer lithium batteries (silver/blue) and it hasn't even gone down a bar after a week of use, so the type of battery definitely makes a difference. Thanks again everyone!

Hey,
Yes that is what I included in the PM I sent you.
You have to use a STRONG battery and not the dollar store ones.
Also if you have the Vibrate feature on that too kills the battery.
Sincerly,
