Anyone know how to purposely break the filament inside the bulb so that the bulb will not light up no more? I want to hook up some leds to the trunk but the trunk bulb gets too hot and i dont want to go in through the back seat to tap into the power. I just want to directly draw power from that socket but not have the bulb on so I can use the bulb to hold the + and - wires for my leds.
Anyone know how to?

does the interior lights go off after a certain time on the gen1? maybe u should just leave the trunk open until the light goes off.

Well another way (without the above leads) is to have the wires for the LEDs running directly from the socket of the 194 bulb, but at the same time put a small patch of electrical tape over one or both of the electrical contacts of the bulb itself. That's how I eliminated my front parking lights (but still have indicators) by just covering up the contact for the parking light filament.

I think the best way to do this SAFELY is to buy a small piece of circuit board and cut it to fit... leave an end long enough for wires to be soldered onto it.... this is the way its done with one of the ebay 3rd brake lights (have that in my car)

Thanks I everyone for your input. But Steve this is the best way and does the exact thing that I need it to do. Thanks for the other stuff Vlad and Peter but I dont think I need to buy anything to make this happen.

Ben, grab the connector from Vlad. Safer than rigging up the light. Not that Steve's way wouldn't work.
