Just classic...

Bizarre rumours are circulating that chart-topper Lady Gaga is in fact a man. Even weirder rumours claim she is in fact a singer.

A hermaphrodite, for the unenlightened, is someone with the erogenous features of both a man and a woman - for instance a libido AND a brain.

It's a tough call..

Regardless of gender i think some people from different regions are just built differently to adapt to the way of life..

Look at venus and serena williams.. why do they consistantly win? Look at how their bodies are built, look at their size. Compare them to other tennis stars and no one comes close..

The above runner example will get ugly.. It's not an easy call

Even if someone has both genitals or both hormones, who are we to call them a man or a woman.. Whichever side they associate more towards is where they should fit in terms of sports.

Oohhhh toughie...

It'll be interesting. If the tests result in her being a female then I cant even imagine what it must've done for her self esteem. That must feel horrible :(

On a side note though ... look at those hands! They're huuge! And is that an Adams apple? and she has no boobs!

They're doing the gender test for the runner, so we should know the results soon.

How the heck do you hide the "package", it would definitely be uncomfortable.

I think the runner is a chick.. have you seen all those olympic athletes?! they're ripped to shit. They have like 0.00000001% body fat on them because all they do is train and train and then train some more. Even female bodybuilders (BARF!!) have no boobs because it's just muscle. ughhh so gross.

Regardless, I think she's a chick - I guess we'll see what the test results bring back!! hahaha

Just because there is no bulge doesn't mean she is a woman...the definition of 'man' and 'woman' is not just limited to genitalia since some people are born without any. The World Track & Field governing body will be carrying out all sorts of tests other than just the usual physical examination.

Yeah I read something in my local paper that back in the day all they did to determine if someone was male or female in the sporting world was to peek under a dressing robe to see the genitalia. But now they have to be more politically correct. Even if she had performed an elective gender reassignment surgery they still have to consider her female in today's society.

I am not saying that she did have surgery- I'm just stating a fact.

regardless of gender, it is likely very difficult for any life-long athlete to have their career ended by something out of their control. it'd be even more difficult if her current gender classification came as a result of her rigorous training that may have caused a hormonal imbalance at a young age.

the fiance and I were watching Melanie Oudin playing tennis...and even the fiance remarked that Melanie has "manly features"...it's not out of the realm of the imagination that athletes, who are the ultimate expression of human physical development, continue to adapt and evolve through their hormonal make-up to compete.

If all women tennis players are about equal in skills and training, the deciding factor may very well come down to how much testosterone one has over the other for that competitve edge.

I really feel sorry for this women. She's had her gender openly questioned in public. She's always felt and been treated as a women. She's been told she's a women. She found a field (athletics) that she excelled in and at the height of her success she's had to undergo test to determine her gender.

Now she gets the news the would normally have been told to her in private. She's not the person she thought she was. She is in fact an abnormality of nature. This has got to be so devastating to a person normally but it's compounded by the fact that the whole world knows. How do you go from knowing without any doubt who you are to being told you were wrong.

I really feel for her.

From an athletics standpoint, I do not think it is fair for her to be competing against women. She has testes that produce significantly more testosterone than a "normal" woman. Thus she has an unfair advantage.

You're right she did have an unfair advantage. But that came about as a result of a un-natural process she had no control or knowledge of. She did not set out to cheat. Unless it can be proven that here handlers knew of her condition and deliberately pushed her to get into track and field she is just a unwitting victim of circumstances beyond her control.

This is a unique case in athletics. People cheat to win and that's punishable. But this is ground breaking case. I personally don't feel she should be allowed to compete with women under the condition she is in.

Fobio
09-11-2009, 11:18 AM
that's the toughy...it isn't so much she's a woman or a man...I'm pretty sure she could care less herself. the shitty part is in the gender classification...she can't compete with women anymore.

but like women golfers, don't be surprised if she starts running with the men...tho I doubt how competitive she'd be in that arena.

the future social ramifications may lead to unlimited athletics...people of various gender classification, bionic prosthetics, no limit foot gear and swim wear...hey, why not?!

Bit of an insensitive way to publish this, especially considering the article says they were still trying to locate her. A smarter thing would have been contact her in private and not publish anything until a decision has been made as to her future in the sport. At least that way she would not have had to face the same sort of publicity this will now get.
