View Full Version : Alignment, how picky should I be?

I just rolled over 1000K on the odometer of my 2010 and it feels as if I already need an alignment?
If I let go of the wheel, the car will drift left. Going 100km/h in the left lane, I'd probably hit the jersey barrier in 5-10 seconds if I totally let go.
Since this is my first new car, I'm not really sure how picky I can be about this. The car has been babied from right off the lot. The dealer will fix this free of charge I hope?

I find that on highways, the left most lane and the right most lane are paved in an angle ... I believe this is done to help with drainage.
So by you saying your car drifts to the left when you're on the left lane, that could be it ... have you tried doing it in the center lane where there is no visible ruts in the road?
Or maybe a City street instead of a highway?

Didn't even think of that, thanks for the advice.

I was just using the left lane as an example. The car will still drift left if I'm on a slight angle to the right.
I'm fairly sure it's the tire pressure now that bubba mentioned it. Thanks guys.

Just bring it to the dealer let them check your alignment and ask for the print out you're cover under warranty at 20K or 1st yr adjustment.

This was happening to me, but I didn't really care lol. I brought it for an alignment after I lowered my car, and its been good ever since.

You should care..you will wreack your tires if you keep driving your car like that.

..i had my 32000 service done at the dealership last weekend. the person in-charge informed me tht i needed an alignment. i declined thinking they were just trying to make an extra buck and because there was really no drifting while driving. when i got home i checked my tires and sure enough there was a noticeable threadwear on the inner side of all four tires.
so on Saturday i am off to Altech. 60 bucks cash.

are you lowered?
is the inside wear only on front, or all 4 corners?
If your rear is wearing on the inside, and you are NOT lowered. Then take it back to the dealer, something is wrong with your NON-adjustable rear camber. They should cover that.
If your rear is wearing on the inside and you are lowered, do you have camber links? If you don't then get camber links installed before alignment.

no I'm not lowered.
good to know.
so wht would happen if there is something wrong with the rear camber.
is tht something tht needs to be replaced or can it be fixed?

if your rear tires are showing wear on the insides, then you can argue with the dealer that since the camber is not adjustable, the camber plates that the car came with are defective.
Thus, they should repair the camber issue as well as replace the rear tires, if not all 4.
At this that is my logic. good luck
