hey guys,

I recently got a HID kit installed on my 3, and it turned out soooo dim. well, ive had 4-5 cars so far which i had HID's installed on and have never seen anything as bad as this.
Its a GT Hid kit. and its a 6000K like all the other ones ive had in the past on my other cars. well i dont know if its the lens that just doesnt let the light pass through good or wat. my stock lights were so good that i thought if i install the HID's it would be really crazy, light wise. and before with the stock lights i had pretty clean light cut off but now its a glary shitty light.

Whats happening? has this happend to u guys as well?
here is a pic

From your pic it almost looks like the bulb isn't seated properly. Can you take a picture of the beam against a wall?

Yep, looks like the bulb is installed incorrectly. I had that happen to me when I had my first kit installed. More than likely, you just need to unclip the retention spring and twist the bulb. If you are facing your car, the tab on the bulb should be at around the 2 O'clock position in the housing. It's easiest to see into the housing on the drivers side.

cut off will be worse than stock lights the higher colour temperature you go.

The amount of light bending done by glass is wavelength dependent (i.e. colour temp dependent), mirror is wavelength independent.

+1 on a shot of the light facing a wall... if the bulb is not seated properly, not much light goes out

with my 05 I installed HIDs. At first it was very similar to what you have. Problem was that the bulbs were not spaced correctly and my kit didn't come with a spacer.. so to fix it I went to Home Depot and bought i think 3-5 washers per bulb to have it spaced correctly and after that the HIDs were great

Please explain how this was a relay problem? I'm curious to know what was wrong. Did you rewire them or anything?

I dont get that. If no light was showing up, and it was relay problem...I'd think grounding it improperly but...yeah I have no idea how that was a relay problem.

I'm going to get HIDs soon, is there something I should be aware of?

No, as long as you wire them correctly.

Something was either not wired correctly or something was faulty. What we are trying to understand is how a relay harness could cause a low output like that, which it really shouldn't.

HOW did you get get those to be so powerful? I have a new HID kit in my car and i cannot get them to produce that much light!!!! I have the tab on the housing in the right position but the light doesnt go out that far! I Need to get the relay put on so my auto lights will work, but semi unsure how to do it myself. Please let me know how you fixed yours because mines at the same stage yours was before, and its really bugging me. Thanks!

Just as a reminder my headlights are from an late model 04, light seems to be shooting out the holes that go around the clear lens (silver circular plate) and shooting out the side of the car. Im thinking its not spaced right like the other guys said. Any help would be great.

Wow. Some of you just need to send a PM to Dan/McGuyver for your HID installs. It doesn't matter what year your car is, light is not supposed to be scattering like that.

Ive had to install my hid's 3 times now. Everytime i put them back in i get the same problem. Im not an idiot, its something i just cant see properly due to the area being jammed with wires and fuse box. From what i can see everything is going in fine. I figured it was my headlight housing since they are not projectiles. Any help would be nice, like I said before.

pull the bumper and pull out the headlight housing, then seat the HIDs properly. it may add 15-20 minutes but it is worth it for the extra space it provides to get things right.

Ok at first I went to Nextmod and I had to install my hid, but my hid did not come with a relay so the person who installed them had to get me to come back for him to install the relay on there. I’m guessing at first that my light was like that was because the spacing wasn’t right or he didn’t install the bulb properly. And I don’t have fog lights; it’s all the low beam,
I know I’m really happy with it. Nice cut off line for a Mazda 3 lens.

Funny that the NextMod kits don't come with relays. Hope you didn't have to pay extra for the relay harness since it comes with most HID kits.

do you really have to know? haha
Okay my brother has a performance shop back home, and I took them from his shop without knowing that it would be better if i grab one with that shit that we need for our cars. So i was like what the heck, I got these for free so ill just pay a little and get the guy to install it and put me the extra peice.

If the Hid kit didn't come with a relay would that cause problems with the HIDs? For example not always turning on or taking a few minutes after the car is on for them to turn on?

Should be fine as long as you hook it up properly. Check out my writeup: http://torontomazda3.ca/forum/showthread.php?t=40599

Went to Dan's last weekend and he solved my HID issue, plus properly installed the relay so now they since bright like the ones in the pics below! :)

i have a nice kit, but i had bad installers install them...what a waste/pity. Hopefully this summer if i have spare cash, i want to get a proper retrofit done so to take full advantage of my HID kit.

I installed HIDs in my 2010 last week, and I've been thinking that my lights weren't bright enough. My friend had a Volt Meter, so we tested to see if the right amount of voltage was passing through the wires. The right amount of power was passing through, and they seem to be angled (I think) correctly too.

The question is, should I buy a relay harness and see if that would make a difference for me? Or before I pull the trigger on that, would anyone who has a 2010 with HIDs post a picture with your lights on?

A relay harness won't make your lights brighter. Are you sure the bulbs are seated properly, the only thing that would make your lights brighter are better ballasts if you have a not so good kit.
