My cars emergency brake light keeps coming on while I'm driving. Most of the time it comes on when I'm slowing down or when I'm completely stopped, but it also sometimes comes on when I'm driving. It goes away when I start driving again. Everything seems completely normal. Any idea what it could be?
it could be covered under warranty

your brake fluid could be low, which could mean your brake pads are probably worn out.
im 90% sure thats the problem

I recently changed my rear brak pads and the front ones are still like new.

hmm
In my old car, (protege5), when my brake pads were really worn, every time i would come to a red light or slow down, the brake light would show up on the dash. I checked the brake fluid and it was low. After topping it off, the problem went away.
So check the fluid if its low.
What year is your car?

Sounds like a bad switch or something in the hand brake assembly.

check your brake fluid as it may be low. thats why it turns on and off whenever the car is moving.

Rear Sensor then? (Seeing as you had your rears done recently?)

I had a similar problem with the E-brake light coming on..however it only happens when there a hard bump the light will pop up, but then again mine will stay on regardless if my handbrake is up or down. Anyway just go to the dealer, they will replace the part for you.

could be as simple as your brake fluid reservoir cap is not sealing properly.
Stop in and I will take a look for ya. - n/c of course ;)

like someone else said... usually a low brake fluid problem which is caused by worn brake pads... brake fluid doesn't go low unless you have a leak problem, which is BAD and you see it on older cars

not likely the brake pads themselves, as he stated he recently changed the rear's, and fronts are in good shape.

just check your brake fluid, as it may have dropped when you were riding on the worn pads on your rear. After the top up im more then sure it will be solved.

i have that too. but mine is always on now. started by how you described yours but now its just always on. brakes were checked and so was the fluid so.
also if its the switch for the ebrake then your lights (drl) would not turn on if you put the handbrake down like they should.

It was the brake fluid it was quite low. Thank you all for the advice.
