i have a 05 mazda 3 hatch. 105 km

i don't know if the brakes should be like this but ..
the pedal feels good an firm but stopping power seems weak ..
they don't seem to stop as well as they should for how hard im pushing them ..

they are far from being touchy ( not responsive )

the car had new rotors and new oem pads .. thought it was shitty pads and i swapped them out for hawk HPS pads and its a little better but still sucks alot compared to my other cars and other cars that i have drove ..

any ideas why or are they all like that
any thoughts or opinions would be great

thanks
Scot

You said the pads and rotors are new; did you bed them?

Weird, mine stop great. Is it a case that they just don't stop? How specifically did you bed them? Did your rotors look bluish or smell when you finished bedding them? How many runs, from what speed, cool down times etc?

maybe you need to bleed the brakes as well.

Mine are the sameee... I have new brake pads/rotors too and they still wouldn't throw me forward if I slammed down on them hahaha... oh wellsssss.. they do the job.

its not that they dont stop they do .. they just seems to suck they are not touchy and dont feel like they bite ..
even slamming on the brakes it dont really throw ya forward ..

the brakes have been on the car 3 months now and still feel the same as the day i put them on ..

the rotors smelled a little nothing bad tho ..
as in for brake in
10 stops from 35 mph moderate pressure.
3 hard stops from 45 mph.
15 minutes cool down.

i plan to auto-x this car but the brakes are not up for the task ..

That doesn't seem right, mine bite great and are pretty damn good for the class of car it is. Had new rotors put on about two thousand KM ago. Took it easy the first few hundred but have been abusing them ever since.

I find that Hawks need a bit of heat in them (more so than OEM pads) to get a good bite.

yes i agree about the hawks workin bit better when warmed up ..
but the brakes dont bite like they should .. iv been racing for about 6 years on hawks in 5 diff cars . and find that on this car they dont have the stopping power ...

ill try swapping out the fluid tomorrow toss in some dot 4 or 5 ya over kill but auto-x takes a toll, and ill post the result

If you can, try putting SS lines on there at the same time as changing the fluid.

SS lines are a huge difference in pedal feel on these cars.. I love em! :)
