Hi

As most of you know, I have a 2007 Mazda 3 GS Sedan.

Car now has 67,000 Km on it and lately the exhaust has been giving off a Rotten Egg odour.

Anyone else have this problem? I hope it is still covered under the warranty

Catalytic has failed, that usually gives off that smell.

I surely hope that is under the warranty

your under 80,000 km, so you have bumper to bumper. Unless you changed the exhaust, which I don't think you have, you'll be fine.

Okay :)

Watch I will take it in and they will say nothing is wrong.

Take it in with the information you have found here...let them know that you know what is up.

If you take it in and say it stinks, they will (if they are not a good dealer) say oh its nothing.

Just walk in and tell them you suspect that your catalytic is failing, or has failed as it has a egg like odor. They then know the problem right off the hop, and are less likely to tell you nothing is wrong when you seem to know that something is wrong.

Natural Gas Leak, check your heat exchanger :chuckle:chuckle
Seriously though I hope it all works out, but it definitely should be covered for you.

From the 2007 Mazda3 Brochure (http://www.mazda.ca/files/2007_M3_Brochure_E.pdf)

Additional warranties cover powertrain components for a period of 5 years or 100,000 km, whichever
comes first, body sheet metal perforation for 5 years and unlimited mileage and specific emission control components for up to 8 years or
128,000 km.

So looks like 8 years 128,000kms.

I will probably be taking it to Agincourt sooner or later. I should have mentioned it is not happening all the time.

it may not necessarily be a bad cat... high sulfur fuels can also cause this problem

asking again, what grade-brand of gas are you using?

Esso, Sunoco, Petro, Shell. And nothing higher than Regular Unleaded.

the same thing happends to me ... when you fill up with petro or esso, it smells alot but only when you drive aggressively, i found that if i only use sunoco or shell ( only their gas and nothing else) it didnt smell anymore . try it out ... its a cheap way to maybe fix your prob.

I think I will stick with Sunoco then and no more Esso :)

What's wrong with Esso!!!! Pshhh that's ridiculous. It's all the same people. It's GAS!!!! Unless you're buying premium maybe. My car's arse end smells like roses!!!! :chuckle And I ONLY use Esso. Plus my mileage is killer.

unfortunately, we all like to think that
but different brands have different sets of detergents/additives... rumor has it, some brands also contain ethanol (like sunoco), while others (like shell) don't... this isn't the case in the states where gas is more tightly regulated and usually comes from the same source

esso (and exxon in the states) from what I understand aren't in the top tier list.... my experience with them haven't been that great... while I haven't had problems, my gas mileage just suffered... my car runs great with shell and sunoco

I prefer Sunoco so I will stick with them.
