View Full Version : Leaking strut again!

To make it a short story, I had to replace the rear left strut at approximately 30,000km on my 2008 sport GT. It was cover under warranty, so no big deal.

No I'm at 60,000km, and the exact same strut is leaking again. So it's still under warranty, so still not an issue, but I'm getting worried that in another 30,000 km when my warranty is up, I'll have to pay for it.

Is it a coincidence that the same side is leaking again? Is it just bad luck that I had two similar bad parts?

Anyone else have leaking strut problems? I saw a few random threads on this site of the odd person having leaking strut, but nothing more.

Could it be cause by something specific in my car? Maybe bad alignment between the strut mount and knuckle or some other bad manufactured part that will cause the problem over and over?

Any suggestions, info of scoop on that issue are welcome.

I won't go aftermarket yet, as the OEM replacement is free for , but if it happens again, I'll definitely go aftermarket.

Make them replace the right one as well. Its not generally a good idea to replace one and not the other. It will throw the dampening of the suspension off and the car may not track properly.. just my 0.02 cents..

Mazda will only replace the leaking one, if the other side is not leaking mazda will not replace it, you will probably have to pay to have it replaced..my 1 cent worth..

I will ask the dealer if they can change both but I really doubt it (not for free at least)

Thanks for the info TheMAN. Based on that, there's definitely no doubt it's busted again. Even thu they didn't mention the extreme case where there's a puddle on my driveway!
